Okay, I went to play ToB today, and when I put in the CD it said I needed to install it. So I click to install it, and its verifying that I want to uninstall it! Whats going on? Should I just uninstall it or what?

I uninstalled it, and when I go to reinstall it it comes up with the error message "Your BG 2 registry entry cannot be located" What have I done?!?!

When you uninstall TOB, it usually just goes ahead and uninstalls SOA as well. Have you tried putting your SOA disc in and seeing if that will install okay?

For some reason when it went to uninstall SoA it came up with an error message and the uninstall program quit.

Okay, I just uninstalled SoA, but when I put the CD in to install it, the option wasn't there, but instead "Play" was. So I clicked it, and it didn't do anything. The only trace of BG2 on my computer (to my knowledge) are the save files! WHATS GOING ON?!?!

It could be that some file or registry corruption occurred. Your best bet is to completely uninstall SoA and ToB, make sure the BG2 registry entries are deleted, and do a fresh reinstall.

Shandris: There isn't even a Baldur's Gate 2 folder anymore, after I uninstalled it, the same thing happened, so I copied the saves to snother directory, and then I deleted the original folder.

There was another thread similar to this. Can't remember whether it was SOA or TOB forum though.

What you can do is run Regedit (usually from the Start>Run menu). You can do a search for all entries containing the word Baldur and delete these manually. This should remove all traces of the program.

Check with Microsoft's website if you want more info on Regedit. Or you can PM me if you want.

You don't really need to do all this. Basically the only registry key that game adds is the one that changes the autorun menu, whereby you can no longer click "install" but "play" instead. So, skip the autorun menu entirely. Browse the SOA CD, find install.exe (or whatever the installer executable is called), and run it. If you make sure you install the game to the same directory you should have no trouble whatsoever (even if you don't, I can't imagine what could go wrong. No guarantees there though)

The setup program will also add an entry (or two) so that control panel knows it's installed. A lot of games won't uninstall or re-install if they think they are currently installed. This is why you sometimes need to delete the entry from the registry - should very rarely need to be done though.

Thanks everyone! I managed to get around the problem by just running the Setup program on the CD.
