The material and files for a second Haer'Dalis quest exist among the game's files (not related to any mod, but in the original non-modded game). That much is certain.

I have not played with Haer'Dalis long enough to see or to be certain that the quest actually exists in the game. If you say that it doesn't exist, the only explanation can be that they (i.e. the designers of the game) have not implemented/completed the quest despite having prepared its files and material. They may have just dropped the idea and left the files there.

I decided a while ago that for me, the game just isn't as much fun without the NPCs. They just immerse you into the story so much more that mp characters can. But since I think the stock classes of the NPCs kind of suck, I often switch their classes and play along as normal. It's the best of both worlds, really - take the characters with the most interesting personalities, with the classes you'd wish they had.

    So, here's my ultimate party:

PC (as Monk or Vanilla Ranger)
    Keldorn (as himself)
    Jahiera (as Cleric/Ranger)
    Minsc (as Barbarian or Berserker)
Jan (as himself - he rocks)
Viconia (as Sorceress or Fighter/Cleric - depending on mood)

If this were just a straight-up multi-player party, I would go with:

    Human Inquisitor
    Dwarf Berserker
    Human Monk
    Halfling Assassin or Gnomish Illusionist/Thief
    Half-elf Ranger/Cleric
    Elf Sorcerer

And now, for 2 different "kits only" parties I tried once, which were great:

    Human Inquisitor
    Elf Archer
    Dwarf Cleric of Helm
    Halfling Assassin
    Half-elf Blade
    Human Conjurer

    Elf Sorcerer
    Half-Orc Barbarian
    Human Cavalier
    Dwarven Bounty Hunter
    Halfling Cleric of Lathander
    Elven Shapeshifter

Oh the possibilities in this game... :D

Agreed. BG2 would be pointless without the NPCs.

Well, play IWD 1 or 2 for complete MP created PCs. They are fun too, a pity the games do not have the fancy kits BG2 have. A mod to introduce these kits to IWD 1 (well, IWD 2 is 3e so it is not doable, I think.) would be the best hybrid-game mod ever! Hmm...I wonder if it is ever possible?

While I agree with this sentiment - Jan is both a capable caster AND the best thief that you can get (I don't count Yoshimo because of his limited life-span), Jan really needs to become a wild mage. I mean, his personality practically screams out for him to be a wild mage.

I think Death Rabbit nailed it with:

    Human Inquisitor
    Elf Archer
    Dwarf Cleric of Helm
    Halfling Assassin
    Half-elf Blade
    Human Conjurer

    Sounds pretty Rockin'
    Btw kits rule! :borg:

Well, excepting that I generally prefer 4 or fewer characters rather than the full, unwieldy 6, here's my answer:

    • Human Inquisitor
    • Human Kensai (13)/Thief (x)
    • Elven Sorcerer
    • Half-elf Ranger/Cleric
    • Half-elf Blade
    • Half-Orc Berserker
Of these, the Berserker is probably the most expendable. I went Berserker rather than Barbarian, btw, for two reasons: 1) I use the True Grand Mastery patch, so being able to get +++++ in a weapon is a real advantage; 2) the immunities are better, particularly to Imprisonment.

The rest are fairly self-explanatory, although I agonised for ages over whether to include either a Wild Mage or a Sorcerer as the chief Arcanist. Honestly, you could swap them around if you prefer. Or swap the Berserker for the WM, if you're a really heavy user of the Arcane.

I am offended, Splunge. The third one just happens to be Jester.

I don't prebuff before every fight. The Wild Mage typically takes care of everything short of the boss fights.

With the options you have listed I woud go with:

    Human Paladin (Inquisitor)
    H/Orc Berserker
    H/Elf Cleric/Ranger
    H/ling Swashbuckler
    Elf Fighter/Mage
    H/Elf Cleric/Mage

This is a powerhouse of a party the only down side I see is that you will not have a Thief with the ability to Back Stab and none of your spell casters will be able to access high level spells early on bot you will get your HLA so this may offset that. And with a party this tough you may not miss these things.

May be just as well off taking your H/Orc F/C and leaving off the Elf Fighter/Mage or the H/Elf Cleric/Mage. Like I said you have piked some solid classes there and just about any combonation of them will be quite good!

still i love my H/Orc F/C, Orgrimm Doomhammer, who swings the crom faeyr and flail of ages, whereever he goes destruction will follow.

but i may try your party suggestion.

i didnt realise my party was that good,

i can finish the game without too many problems, not as higher level mage being the major problem, i used to use a single class mage, but since multiclass mages can use the armor you get from the black dragon in chapter 7 (or 6 i forget which), i now use multiclassed mages.

    Maybe Try Ths Lineup:
    Human Paladin (Inquisitor)
    H/Orc F/C
    H/Elf Cleric/Ranger
    H/ling Swashbuckler
    Elf Fighter/Mage
    H/Elf Cleric/Mage

By all means leave Orgrimm Doomhammer in the party, he sounds pretty Cool !
