    [IMG] I saw it here

I don't know whether to install it or not, I'm a bit worried that the whole game might be like this because of all the remaining bugs.

    Has anyone tried it yet?

Err, the beta's been out for quite some time... I remember topics about it from a few months back.

    Oh, damn. I just noticed.

Regardless, the question about whether anyone has tried it remains valid.

    Anyone?

IIRC, the author does not "have time" to work with the project anymore, so if you are like me and don't like buggy betas -R.I.P Icewind Gate. A lot of work thrown away, I say.

    Reviews anyone? ;)

I was involved with testing when the original creator, Weimer, was still actively developing the project.

It is playable but there are still a lot of bugs and balance issues, and load times are quite long. So if you play it expecting a near - perfect experience you will be disappointed.

Having said that, it is playable, most of the way though. I managed to get through to the Spellhold maze before a game - destroying bug.

Just bear in mind that you will encounter bugs, if may be too hard/easy, and you'll need a list of CLUA Console commands to teleport between areas and set variables occasionally.

Any chance someone else might fix the bugs and make it playable?

I think some guys called DevilishPope and IcelandIsMine were planning on doing that a while ago, but, I'm not sure if anything came of it.

Last I heard they were using time that would have been better spent learning ocaML arguing about what new name they would give the mod instead.

I also went through a bit of the IWG beta, tho not as far as Andyr. There are indeed alot of rough edges: the installation is tricky, most of the cut scenes have one problem or another, (such as needing to teleport out at the end of every dream), enemies sometimes won't turn hostile (Tabitha actually began fighting on *my* side against the beastmaster), one has to export, delete, and import each NPC after they join to keep from crashing (and so losing their voicesets), and there are alot of game balance and timer issues that could be tweeked. If you want BG2 music, you have to do a little jiggery pokery; now my IWG has some BG2 music, tho I never got around to figuring out most of it (romance musics, etc). One of the more amusing bits was after the slavers quest; I couldn't find Hendak anywhere, but then found him locked back in his cell along with another gladiator: what was that about Germans and bondage games? In short, if you're expecting a polished production, you'll find yourself wanting to go back to the original BG2. However, if you like seeing things run under the hood of the Infinity Engine, or doing a little tuning yourself (or if you've always thought it a crime the child of Bhaal couldn't be a deep gnome monk or aasimar paladin/sorcerer), you might enjoy this beta.
