I'm glad you are not afraid to admit to crying. Grief has a course that it runs, and crying is a good sign. I have been where you are at. We took care of my father at home with Hospice when he died. My heart bleeds for you, and I am crying as I type this. The loss of a parent is traumatic enough, but watching them slowly die and lose their mental clarity is truly heart renching. My heart goes out to you in this time. I wish there was more I could do for you.

It's hard to say best of luck, so, instead, I will offer my best wishes for what is best for you and your family.

Words can't convey how much that sucks, Fel.

I don't think I'm overstepping the mark by reminding you that everybody on SP stands ready to help out however we can, even if it's only being here to listen or provide a distraction. Know that we're all thinking of you both, and hoping that the times ahead are kinder to you and your mother than could be expected.

Best wishes, and I hope things go as best they can for you and your family in this time.

A second admission (though late in coming due to recent activity at home):
Having seen threads like this before where people give their condolences (and even having participated in a few), I thought they were hollow, empty, purposeless ways for people to feel like they were helping those in grief. How could anyone possibly feel anything from a few words on a computer screen? So when I posted this, it wasn't to get any sympathy, but instead just to get it out there. Keeping secrets can eat away at you, and I quite simply just couldn't stand to keep this one anymore, from you or myself. TBH, I was even dreading the inevitable outpouring of sympathy because I 'knew' it wouldn't make me feel any better, and might even make me bitter for a time in a "you can't know my pain" kind of way.

But I read them anyway and I have to tell you, being on the other side, it's a very different story. I look at the words of people that I've gotten to know, even a little bit, and the feeling really does come through. Knowing that you're all out there, and that you really do care, it...it actually means something. And I have to say that, once again, you have given me more than I would have thought possible. You all have my gratitude, and I will endeavor to pay you back in the only way I know how: by keeping this site alive with donations and helping you with any game problems I am able.

Since my first post over a week ago, things have actually gotten significantly better. The paranoia has all but disappeared now that she's back at home, in familiar surroundings (with only one early incident that I'm not sure of since she couldn't express herself). As well, the caretaker from GoodPeople, an immigrant from Africa named Ida, is being a tremendous help not only with my mother (who she gets along with incredibly well), but also around the house. With my laptop's salvation slated to arrive either tomorrow or the next day, things seem pretty well on track (so long as I can get Mom's taxes done by then ;) ).

Wow, didn't see this thread til now. Wondered where the bard had gone off too. All my best in dealing with this. I've had similar experience; it's especially wrenching to care for someone who goes through huge mood swings and periods of emotional disturbance. But I'm glad the home caregiver is working out!
