I agree that many people that 'like' anime are a bit freaky. But then so are the Trekkis, Star Wars fanatics, Tolkien buffs, comic book fans, etc... (BTW, I am two of those things I just mentioned).

Every entertainment form has its detractors, its fans AND its fanatics.

Me, I like anime. I like all different levels of it. I love the Patlabor series, along with Golgo 13, Vampire Hunter D and Ninja Scroll (to name just a few). But I also like the lower brow fare such as Tenchi Moyo, Dragonball (all incarnations), and Dragon Knight.

And I like hentai too. And as with regular anime, all different kinds. What difference is there my girlfriend and I watch animated porn or live-action porn? Yes, I like big boobs too.

But does this make me a freak? No. I don't live my life for this stuff, just like I don't live my life for my job, or my car, or garden. They are things I enjoy (such as anime) but I don't go advertising everywhere I go. Sure, I go to Trek conventions, and I even dressed up once, but I don't live in Federation Town (or whatever it is called).

What is my point? My point is that you can be a fan, but not be insipid about it. And also, anime/hentai (which ARE different) are not the only pop-cultural entertainments that have thier share of freaks. Is there something that set you off perticularly on anime?

But I am in agreement with one 100% about one thing Gabrial NYC. Hamtaro makes me want to puke.

those anime and manga are classified into different category, for all ages, >18, and in between
>all ages... it is all ages doesnt means it is for kids only, lots of great anime are of all ages, and lots of adults do enjoy them (eg snow sugar, i do love watching them)

Well, of course manga, anime and hentai are three different things. Manga itself is rarely 'adult', but well... it's too sheepish for my liking. Anime is nice - some of it. Most of that is still sheepish. Also I'm not saying no to hentai. Well, I'm not exactly missionary type, but there are some borders.

I definitely think they're much worse than the Trekkies. On a bus I rather sit next to a Klingon or a star fleet officer instead of some smelly, annoying doofus dressed up like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy.

Some anime is awesome...but others just suck.

 

You know what's bad about some anime.

how the villain always has light colored hair and is effeminate. Always swishing the hair back, subtle homosexual way of carrying themselves.

Ive yet to see a masculine, macho villain. not just the hired goons or such. I mean the big boss etc.

riddle me this: some women cannot understand why some men like watching lesbians but yet some female anime fans like reading manga and watching anime when two men are getting it on and the like.

BTW, Gabriel, don't diss all anime/manga. The japanese are amongst the best story-tellers in the world, and anime/manga is simply an excellent medium for story-telling.

 

i jes wanted to say that there some animes wich are very good in my opion...such as:

X TV series (movie sux kinda)
Ghost in the Shell
Record of Lodoss war
Vision of Escaflowne (my alltime favorite)
Neon Genesis Evangelion

but still, there are some very bad ones

 

I was under the impression that e-mail flaming was the way to go if you wanted to flame -- doesn't the FAQ state, in essence "if you want to flame someone, do it OFF these boards"?

Back to Anime, it may simply be a case of cultural barriers to understanding -- I have yet to really get a lot of the storyline to a lot of Japanese storytelling. As for Hentai (I'm assuming this term refers to animated porn?) well, I suppose all porn has it's place, though if I were to decided to watch porn I'd rather watch real live women as opposed to drawings, but maybe there are benefits to the drawings. I'll certainly never know!

First off, the flaming-mail-spaz should die of some freakish tropical disease and rot in oblivion.

That being said, I was wondering if anyone else got duped into joining the "Best of Anime II" collection. First I got M.D. Geist 2 (not 1, mind you, but 2), and aside from the fact that it had a confusing storyline, terrible voice-acting, and mediocre animation, it sucked. Then they sent me "Wrath of the Ninja." I shut it off halfway through and didn't bother watching the end for several months. I still wish I hadn't. The soundtrack reminded me of porn music. Fortunately I cancelled before I had to pay for any more crap.

Ninja Scroll rocks, by the way. And Vamp D and Akira, of course. Cowboy Bebop was fun to watch on occasion, but I gave up trying to stay up to watch it on CN. And Hamtaro is the devil.

As I mentioned before I don't hate ALL anime/manga. I hate the ones that degrade women, treat the viewer/reader as a retard, silly **** that isn't even funny (there is a weird on Fox called Fighting Foodons; the hell is that about??) or worse still..the obsessed fans. So those 3 I will continually rip.

It just irks me that many people think anime/manga is nothing more than "big eyes and small mouth" or "giant breasts on a 14 year old girl" **** when there is so much more.

 

I've heard nothing but good things about Ninja Scroll and it's sequel Ninja Resurrection. I have been looking for something to rent for next weekend.

I don't think anyone mentioned this before here, but I may have missed it. (There were a lot of posts basically repeating the same stuff, not that I'm complaining, but I skim the ones that re-iterate earlier posts.)
Anime, sometimes called 'Japanimation', is a reference to that certain style of animation, with the big eyes, non-existant noses, etc.

Hentai is just a term for Anime porn.
