I'm all for initiations. When the goal, yes, to mock the initiates but to a degree to build a fraternity. I started college in computer programming, and for a weekl, we had to go to class dressed in the typical nerd (glasses and tape, pocket protector, gelled hair, clothes that don't fit quite right, ect). Let me tell you that while walking through school, everyone dressed as nerds would all stick together. I made a lot of friends that day.

And when I was in university, I was part of a group. On my last year, we got the group together and everyone had to write on a piece of paper a dare that someone else in the group had to do and sign it. After getting back the papers, they learned the (not mentionned) rules of the game : you have to do the dare you wrote yourself. If you're a mean person, boy did that fall back on you... We had some great moments. One had to lick the bellybutton of another guy, someone had to go to the nearest corner shop in his underwear and ask if they had vasoline... it was beautiful... :)

The so called 'Hazing' is really a military custom which has tradition and is usually part of the first months to knock normal-world sense out.

But it is out of place in schools or universities,- and has long assumed absurd forms and customs.

I disagree with such a generalization.
