Great replies, some hilarious! Thank you all for the replies! I always thought bars and nightclubs were the best place to meet them but after seeing all of the replies, the options are a lot broader. Guess I'll have to change jobs then! I would still like to know how the instant love reaction happens. Why does it happen ? And common interests, like what ? How did it happen for you ?

I wasn't thinking of females with no money. More along the lines of hanging out at a strip club.

 

Who says I don't. I'm a computer engineer (currently student though). I do everything with my PC.

 

Mutual friends usually. Can't really give decent advise as I don't know you or anything about you so what works for me may not work for you.

Also works in my favor that I'm quite good looking and terribly charming IRL

but a lot of the stuff mentioned here is useful, activity groups, etc. Basically, all it's about is having the balls to make a play for it. Charm and approach is usually the secret. Makes it easier if the girl is into your looks, of course, but if she isn't there's still a way. I know a lot of "mis-matched" couples with the girl having up to 5-points(!!) higher than the guy on my "attract-o-meter" scale of 1 to 10

 

But I work with all guys! I'm screwed ain't I...

 

Perhaps the word "screwed" should be used with more caution in your case, Gnarf...

 

Best way to meet girls (aside from mutual friends which imo is the best way) would probably be to head to a bar or club with ONLY 1 or 2 friends to act as "wingmen". Trust me, there's no better way to scare the ladies off than to show up with your whole group of guy friends and hanging out in the same corner

The wingman can address a variety of tactical needs such as being the one who keeps on insisting that the girl match him drink for drink so that it doesn't appear as if the guy going for her is trying to get her drunk As I have a gf of my own, it usually falls to me to do this for my buddies

 

Childhood or long-time friends, maybe. Makes the match-up pretty easy.

Or just go alone, find a table, and sit down. Give a smile to interested looking gals and tap the table. Maybe one of them decides to take the offer. Works the other way too, should there be a lone, brave soul among the wrong gender.

People place too high expectations on bars, by the way. They exist mainly for drinking and dancing, so if neither interest you, there are better ways to spend your time.

Try just buying a girl a drink. Not a difficult tactic. Have a chat, and see how it goes.

I find it interesting you asking a buch of computer gaming geeks about dating, but since you're asking....

I've actually never been without a girlfriend since I was ~16. I personally enjoy the company of women to the company of men. I found there are three very important traits that you must develop:

1. Listen. Really listen to what they say to the point you can remember it.

2. Think before opening your mouth. If there is any way possible what you want to say can be offensive AT ALL, DON'T SAY IT.

3. Never offer advice to a woman unless she DIRECTLY asks for advice (no matter how much you want to). You need to understand that men and women process things differently. Most women want to just talk about a problem -- that's it, just venting (no input from you is required). Men, on the other hand, won't bring up a problem unless they are asking for your input.

I'm still working on all three of those.

I personally think you should stay away from bars if you want a serious relationship. As others have said, find something in the community that interests you. There are almost always groups that gather for those common interests (hint: expand your horizons -- most member of computer gaming and D&D groups are male).

Figuratively speaking. I was quoting another person here, who usually meddles with thai-women. It was actually a encouraging smile, if you want to be precise. Gets him laid in a regular basis. But then again, most his calls were for hookers, so take this as you want. It depends a lot of your charisma anyway and what suits you.

Personally, I think it's perfectly normal to invite others to your table and strike up conversation which, hopefully, leads to the desired conclusion. Easy too, since you can scout out in half an hour if there is going to be any buzz that evening/night. No reason to waste your time if no one is interested of you. Let the dancers dance and drinkers get drunk.

You could as well just say "Let's have sex after the drink", since buying out drinks is so old cliché that any woman with half the brains will know exactly what you are after if you offer a free drink. If she has a whole brain, she will simply take it and reply "Thanks! C'ya!" for the freebie. Knave.

Not to forget that many people are too shy to approach a stranger directly and without any warning.
