[IMG] Sorry, I'm not a girl but I have to reply :
Why don't more girls play games ?

Well it's not technical stuff as I know lots of girls who know more about computers than a lot of people here. They tend to play games that give them a quick fix not because of the challenge of RTS or RPG but because they can find more interesting things to do than spend hours infrount of a computer for 6 hours playing BG.
I don't think boys like playing games better than girls as it's just very anti-social and most girls just are more social than boys.

Girls can be better than boys at games ( my mother-in-law is a crack shot at time crisis ) but usually it all comes down to dedication to the games and that means no social life.

I think the "anti-social" aspect of sitting in front of a computer game for hours is exactly the reason most women aren't interested. It's so well publicised as a sneerworthy pastime for overgrown boys that women are turned off by the whole idea. Never mind that the stereotype isn't particularly true- most of the boys and men here seem wise beyond their years and anyway, between multiplayer games and NPC interactions there is lots of opportunity for testing social skills as well as strategic ones. In fact, the Jaheira romance involves so much social skill that women are probably better at it!

A factor for CPRGs is that most people, I would assume, found them by starting out playing D&D. And D&D groups DO tend to be mainly guys. I've been playing since I was 7 and have always been the only girl in the groups I've played with. Guys don't encourage women to join their groups, mainly I think as a few guys playing D&D can tend to get as rowdy as if they were in, say, a strip club or other male-bonding venue. Perfectly nice guys often turn into- well, barbarians!- while playing. The only gaming groups in which I was treated as a "buddy" instead of "hey, a real live GIRL!" were the ones in which a boyfriend was playing. Why don't women just form their own D&D groups? Now that's a question I can't answer. I've sure been tempted.

How cool would that be? An all girl game group! I'm there.

I've always been the only girl in my D&D groups, save for the occasional sit-in by a curious girlfriend. Most of my friends are guys, gaming and non-gaming, so I'm looked at as a "buddy" type, I guess. Or maybe a "mommy" type, since I wind up dishing out womanly advice all the time, feeding them, and makng sure they're warm and well kept.

I was upbraided for referring to Kaylinne Johanne as a female once, too.

Well i have to add to this one, Braindead games eh mollusken. Well my husband hates rpg's and loves the braindead go round in circles over and over type games like racing games or fight over and over like virtua fighter.

I heard on a radio show yesterday that it has been proven here at a university, that women have more brain cells in the prefrontal lobe of the brain then men  (the area controlling reason, logic, and memory) Proving that women are smarter then men! :rolling:

Im sure this will start a heated debate *giggle*

[IMG] Kitten ... no debate is necessary! For while men realize that women will always *think* that they are smarter, we also know that it is pointless to argue with them.

New research proves that the extra brain matter you mentioned is actually a "Logic Shield", making women immune to all forms of rational discourse.

    ;)

    [IMG] Kit, bah!

Braindead games are top in my country only to those who don't speak English. But any peson who speaks English, male or female, would take RPG or adventure before "braindead" games. Errr, I'm talking abour real and good RPGs, not Diablo or PoR.

I can only guess your hubby doesn't speak English... :p :p

And also, IIRC I said months ago that men are more imaginative, and women are more practical. And I said it was proven years ago. And you, yes you, said it ain't true. Your university discovered warm water.
Anyway, it doesn't show if generally speaking males or females are smarter. You must compare two individuals to determine that. Each human brain is actually different.

You're exactly right Kit. There is nothing wrong with racing and fighting games, they increase hand eye coordination.

It's quality not quantity, Kit, when pertaining to most things to do with the mind. Women, sheesh. If it weren't for .... :D

I did not call anyone braindead here. I was just explaining an internal definition of games where you play "right now" and don't have to think of what is going to happen in 5 hours if you do this and that.

After a less interesting argument with my sister, it seems like she has difficult to sit alone and do something hour after hour after hour. She has to be with someone, and she's always away at weekends when I'm usually home playing on my computer. Hope I do not offend anyone this time, but maybe men are more capable of enjoying their own company alone, sitting there solving problems who has nothing to do with the real world.

Kit, no search engine links me to your facts. Either give me the university name, or a link. Please :)

That scares me - men sitting all alone enjoying their own company

Don't you know you can go blind doing that :nono:

This is why there aren't more women in the gaming community. Look at the crap we have to deal with. Men trying to figure what brings us out of the "kitchen", and into the gaming world.

It almost seems that some of you men are uncomfortable with intelligent, empowered women not only interested in, but excelling at activities that are typically "guy" things. Why else would you try to explain us away? "Isn't that cute, a girl gamer, wonder how she got here?" Like we stumbled onto gaming by accident, and we're lost.

Why am I into gaming? For the same reason you are. Because I like to use my imagination, because I like strategy, I like the glory of battle, I like blood and guts and action, I love swords and weaponry and war.

Matheatis, you are the best ;).

But back to the topic, Damona has a point. This is a guy thing, and we don't like interference. Why on earth can't women stick to their own stuff? Computers are ours! :D

Common everybody, be some more friendly. We are dissing the girls here, but we all say: "The more girls, the better this place is" and we all know that we cannot live without them... but also not with them :)

As if! My ideal weekend would consist of gaming around the bloody clock! For a sample, yeaterday I spent 7 hours working on my computer, most of the time playing BG2! I have a social life, but I still spend most of my free time playing BG2! Or reading fanfic. Whatever.

"I don't think boys like playing games better than girls as it's just very anti-social and most girls just are more social than boys."

Maybe... not me. I am completely happy even without a social life. I was for years, when I was the kid in the school that no-one liked.
And no, it's not antisocial! As someone said, look at this place! SP is one of my fave places to spend my time in!

Yes, I am a nerd. I'd give a link to a pic but there's none in the web, and I haven't been in a picture in, like, years...

Yes, we are. Men can do the dirty work... and should not expect us to clean up!

The social order of the drow is a wonderful utopia... That's how things should be :)

Of course, without Lloth and all the religious nonsense... but preferably with whips :)
