Fly Spiderfly is the name of this one. I have decided on a theme for my next series of paintings. It has to do with the deadly sins and maybe the heavenly virtues. I want to explore different aspects of light and dark.

The photo of the painting does not properly catch the textures or the colors. Texture is important because I scraped into the canvas in places and there are many different styles of brushstrokes. I spent a long time adding layers to the sun and then painting over it so that it no longer was evident as a sun.

The spider is floating in mid space. The swirls represent a web and also motion like being carried away on a gust of wind. The upper orange spiral is of course the sun. When I was painting it I was thinking about it exploding.
