    re: stormfront/PoR

the way i remember it is that stormfront was the THIRD developer assigned to PoR, brought in to sorta fix the mess the first 2 made and had no time to actually implement anything. i think they were more or less just cleaning up the worst of the bugs pre-release.

    sad. sad. sad.

however, Demon Stone, in my book, is definitely a "wait and see" game. maybe even a "wait for budget version" game.

Although the graphics look cool, I'm not really impressed with the lack of character generation. I mean, that's the whole point of DnD and Roleplaying games: the flexibility to make any character you want. I'll be passing on this one, I think.

The battle system sounds like a suped-up version of Secret of Mana. Sounds interesting but the AI could really make or break it--I'd rather it be more along the lines of SoM's AI rather than, say, Kingdom Hearts where the default modes made your NPCs quaff happy to the point where you were constantly sinking money into potions.

I'm not ready to reject this game out of hand, as I've always been much more of a console gamer (the only PC games I play are the FR games, the Sims, and the odd Civilization/Starcrack type game). I'm not really sure why they're porting this to the PC other than trying to cash in on the D&D/FR name, though. This game sounds like a straight up action-RPG in the vein of SoM, Kingdom Hearts, the Dark Alliance games, etc. While I love those kinds of games, and I was quite addicted to Dark Alliance 1's two-player mode (my bf and I played through it several times), they just don't work on the PC. My fear is that TPTB will try to make this game be all things to all people, and end up satisfying no one.

I'll be waiting for it to go Greatest Hits and then pick it up for the PS2, most likely.
