Lathander was a NG god of dawn, but also youth, athleticism, beauty (to a point) and a few other things. He struck me a lot like an expy of Apollo, really. Amauntor is a lawful sun god... they share a theme, but aren't all that close. You could make a point of Lathander being an aspect of Amauntor, but iirc Lathander is supposedly a fairly old deity in the Realms.

So no, in pre-4E realms I think there isn't much of a basis to claim that Lathander is Amauntor. In 4th... I don't really know, or care for that matter.

In 4th ed. Lathander joins a long list of other casualties from the Faerunian pantheon, though he does not actually die in-game. It turns out he was just another aspect of Amaunator, who returns as a Lawful Good deity. Other casualties include Midnight (Mystra), Eilistraee, Sehanine Moonbow (turns out she was an aspect of Selune), and Aerdrie Faenya (turns out she was an aspect of Akadi).

    I hate 4th ed.

Lathander. I like the whole Morning Sun, spring, hope, renewal and undead bashing.

I vastly prefer him to Amaunator.
