    Chips for breakfast?

Full English is good (apart from the black pudding), but shallow in comparison to an Ulster fry.

Egg, bacon, sausage, potatoe bread, soda bread, wheaten bread, Ulster style berry pancake, mushrooms and various herbs :yum: and not forgetting porridge on the side with a spoonful of honey.

ever had a sunday roast? christmas dinner? where do you think that came from.

Ive been to france and italy and let me tell you, paris aside from being the dirtiest city Ive ever had the misfortune of visiting, didnt have impressive local quisine, unlike british restaurants which serve fine dishes including scampi, beef roast, gammon, swordfish and other fine dishes. I even found the greasy fry up I had in swansea at 5am to be more impressive. the only thing the french contribute is foul manners, sickening side dishes, over prices menus. someone mentioned italy? the only thing italy is good for are coffee houses.

well, if the only defense chirac has for his underproductive farmers is to attack british food, then he is more pathetic then the rest of europe already believed him to be

Probably because Finnish food sucks. The traditional christmas food sucks, Mämmi sucks, kalakukko sucks and so on. The only Finnish food that I love is Karelian pasties. I don't know how I could live without them. ;)

As for Brittish food. I have never really tasted it, but from all I've heard it's not much worth mentioning. The breakfeast for me is useless anyway since I hardly ever even eat breakfeast. I'm sure there are good things in the Brittish cuisine but the things mentioned here just don't impress me much. :p

Food that I like generally impresses me. I like especially Italian, Mexican, Vietnamese and Chinese food. ;)

I know what kind of food I like. It's of course possible that the british food mentioned here and others I've heard of taste better than they sound but I find it highly unlikely. That's why I'm saying that it does not impress me rather than claiming it to be bad.

We Britishmen like to get to the point and not give our food fancy names, like for example, Fish and Chips, which is made up of ... Fish and Chips believe it or not ;)

And the Full English Breakfast ... its an English breakfast that makes you full :D

    Ah brilliant British Logic :holy:

What's wrong with Digestives!?! Ok, I know I'm replying to something, which were written quite some time ago; but I have always been found of Digestives, and enjoyed those delicious little crackers with a good lair of butter (called 'tooth butter' where I come from), and a smelly old cheese :D , and still do!
There's nothing quite like it, and that's just being honest :)

Really? Then perhaps you could explain the contents of these:
    Bubble and Squeak
    Spotted Dick
    Toad in the Hole
    Faggots
    Curate's Cheek
    Singin' Hinnies
    Richmond Maids of Honor

...all taken from "Great British Cooking: A Well-Kept Secret" by Jane Garmey, ISBN 0-394-50876-9.

Those names sound way cooler than italian, french, etc. dishes, though it could be because I don't know Italian or french. :p

For the record Morgoroth, kalakukko rules, my grandma make the best ever! And don't forget karjalan paisti. ;)

Well I don't like kalakukko but it's mostly due to the fact that I can't stand fish. I've never been too fond of karjalan paisti but it's not all bad. ;)

Bubble and Squeak is an absolute delicacy. It is eaten on Boxing Day, with the remnants of the Christmas dinner all mashed together and fried. It's served with egg, cold turkey and gravy. It sounds absolutely puke-worthy, but is it honestly delicious.

Spotted Dick is basically a king of fruitcake.

Toad in the Hole is sausages inside in Yorkshire puddings. That's the way we eat them anyway, because it's nicer, although I've heard it made with toast or bread, but I don't like that, it's rank.

    As for...
    Faggots
    Curate's Cheek
    Singin' Hinnies
    Richmond Maids of Honor

... I've never heard of them.

Believe it or not but frogs' legs are a delicacy. No offense but to a Frenchman British food looks crude.
I mean when I first watched Jamie Oliver or Ready Steady Cook I almost died laughing (Germans are blessed with Alfred Biolek whose TV program has to be the worst in the entire world) to a Frenchman these guys are amateurs.
Don't mistake me I'm not a fanatic, I sincerely deplore the fact that even in France the standards have fallen in recent years. It isn't easy anymore to find a really good restaurant in France and it's a pity. Still there are some great places where you can eat haute cuisine or genuine traditional dishes.
What is nice is variety and now it is easier though to find exotic restaurants which introduce different flavours to our dulled taste buds.
I spent some time in Scotland and there I enjoyed the best fish and chips ever and I also learned to appreciate Indian cuisine.
Don't get all worked up Barmy, it's a matter of taste and habit, in this regard we're all somewhat prejudiced. Believe me frogs' legs taste really good. ;)

Hey! Jamie Oliver is a legend.

Maybe that's because Jamie shows how REAL people can cook delicious food in their own home using normal ingredients rather than trying to be some sort of cordon bleu fancy pants. Dinner in our house has become much more delicious, healthy, and fun since Jamie came on the scene.

@Harbourboy: when I go out I like to eat something I can't cook myself; if you learned something from his program and if he brought back the fun in your kitchen, it's fine, keep up the good work! :)

@shoshino: come on, don't feel that way. You British have great talents: the Pythons, Benny Hill, Rowan Atkinson, etc.
We French have the cuisine. :p
(I'm just pulling your leg I hope you don't mind)

    I like Fenchbread :p

    Allow me to amend that.

We Britishmen like to get to the point and not give our food fancy names unless they are classics such as Toad in the Hole, Bubble and Squeak and whatnot :p

Everyone loves Fish n' Chips, no matter how fancy the food they are used to, and 'Long John Silvers' pathetic immitation does not count!
