Do you beleive that people somehow "communicate" telepathitically? Is there a bond between real friends and/or relatives? There are some incidents between me and my friends that indicates that there is one. What do you think?

No, it's instinct not telepathy in my opinion. And if people want something to happen really badly they think it happened while it really didn't.

By saying telepathy, I don't mean peaople talking with their minds. I mean something like an instinct, but it's certainly not an instinct what I'm talking about.

Stelios(a friend of mine) argued with his little brother and he was very angry. At the same time Paul (another friend of mine) got a little depressed with no reason at all. Coincidence? No. There have been more incidents. I don't think it's an instinct.

Well, at the risk of coming across as a nutjob (or more of a nutjob :D ), let me tell you a bit of a story. It also blends a bit of the afterlife into it, just to make it weirder.

When I used to live with my parents, we had a elderly lady as a neighbour (I’ll call her ‘Mrs. Smith’) who kept pretty much to herself – she was nice enough, but we never really got to know her.

After I moved out on my own, I never really gave Mrs. Smith a second thought. About three or four years later, I had a dream where I was walking down the street of my old neighbourhood, and when I walked in front of Mrs. Smith’s house, she was standing on her front lawn, looking at me – nothing menacing or anything, just looking. I woke up, and didn’t think much else of the dream.

A couple of days later, my mother told me that Mrs. Smith had passed away a few days previously. I recalled my dream and, after recovering from the severe chill that was running up and down my spine (and still does to this day when I think about it), I remembered a story that I had heard that people, when they pass away, will often come to you in your dreams to say goodbye.

I have considered the possibility that perhaps I had heard about Mrs. Smith’s death already, but it just hadn’t registered. I don’t think that was the case, since I don’t read the obituaries, and I’m sure I would have remembered finding out that Mrs. Smith had died.

So, telepathic communication? And afterlife? I’m far from being convinced, but it makes me wonder sometimes.

I'm not going to say it doesn't exist... but it's not like I really believe it does. Guess I'd have to experience it myself.

But it's a different story if the person is within the reach of your senses. In that case, there is some instinct which is stronger in some people than in others. It also varies between people and between emotions they sense. Some are attuned to honesty/deception, some to happiness/unhappiness, some to friendliness/hostility, some get sexual signals better and so on.

My hunches typically prove true even if I see no logic behind them and dismiss them. Sometimes I "sense" a couple bad things about someone and think to myself "no, I can't judge people on my hunches", "I don't know them, I have nothing to back it"... and after some long time it shows to be exactly as my intuition hinted. Plus, I always spot all BS, so people might as well stop trying... I often know what they'll say before they make up their mind to say that, anyway.

Volsung, I strongly believe in empathic links existing between some individuals. Especially between family members. My mother and one of my older brothers definatly have one. When my brother was young he was in a serious car accident with some friends. My mother and I were at home at the time. I remember seeing her frantic all of a sudden for apparently no reason. She herself didn't know what was wrong but she knew SOMETHING was wrong. We found out less than an hour later that my brother was in the hospital with a broken arm a broken leg and some fractured legs.

Splunge -- I wholeheartedly believe in that sort of thing. While this is a little different from an empathetic link from person to person, I'd like to relay a weird occurrence that happened to me a couple of years ago.

I had just moved to a town in the South to start a new job and I was looking for a grocery store to do some shopping. I drove out in the country a ways and found one. As I drove into the parking lot, I kept staring at this store -- it was a fairly new store, no different than most, but I couldn't really take my eyes off of it. I parked the car and started to feel a sense of dread...a kind of darkness and very bad types of feelings. I shook it off and got out and walked towards the store....staring at the front in almost a befuddled way. The feelings intensified and when I stepped inside, I was overwhelmed with a feeling of BAD, of something "evil" if you will. I broke out in a sweat, and tried to control my breathing. The feeling intensified as I walked the aisles -- a feeling like I wanted to scrub my skin. I got my stuff, hurried out and left. It bothered me for a few days, but I tried not to dwell on it. About a week later I went back for more shopping and the same exact thing happened....such a feeling of ill will and badness. This time I left immediately and found another store to shop in.

Now, I'm not prone to anxiety attacks, but I have had them once or twice, so I know what they are -- it was nothing like that. This was something that wasn't a part of me, yet was trying to be. It most definitely was in that store.

As I started my new job, one day my boss and I were chatting and I mentioned my experience in that store. He put his pen down and looked at me for a few minutes -- and then he told me that the store was built on a very old gravesite and they relocated the graves to a newer location -- it was quite an issue in the community, but finally they received permissions to do this. I sat stunned and knew at that very second that what I had been feeling was the sensing of the souls of those people that had been moved. I was convinced then, and still am to this day.

@ Splunge, I've had that experience, but figured out immediately that it had to do with unfinished business. I'll stay no more as it is as yet unfinished (they left it to the last minute to tell me, so they cannot complain if I take my time too).

If you tell a story like that Ireland you have to add that you heard a Banshee wailing in the darkness too, or people will think you are mad.

Banshees are the traditional Irish heralds carrying the news of a relatives death.

    Ban - woman.
    Shee = Sidh - faery/ghost.
    ------------------------------------------------

If Stelios was 'arguing' then this implies he was able to think rationally, which means he had his emotions under control.

Someone transmitting his emotional state has to be consumed by that emotion. Stelios would have had to be in a beserk rage, on the verge of killing his brother for anyone to remotely sense it.

If Paul was an empath then he would have become angry and beligerant without any provocation, not depressed. For some reason you are drawing a link between the two people, did Paul actually visualise himself attacking someone in a fashion similar to Stelios' confrontation?

Empathic abilities are a gift which should only be used to scare the crap out of people you don't like.

Remember to 'be mindful of your own thoughts, Alex, they betray you'.

On a side note, actually 'believing' in the supernatural (outside of popular religions) is seen as a sign of a person's decent into madness. So keep using the word coincidence if you don't want to be admited to a mental institution.

I definately believe in the "empathic link" with people.

I have experienced several incidents like the ones Volsung mentioned from both perspectives. Sometimes it's uncomfortable, knowing that someone else has a link with your emotions and can sense what you're feeling.

Bluin -- I don't think that's the case these days. There are plenty of unexplained phenomena, that don't fit nicely into religious or scientific norms. There are many people around that have unusual sensatory abilities -- it doesn't mean they are descending into madness. The scientific community, at least, does not hold to the practice of discounting events or occurrences that can't be explained by their rules.

It probably means they are frauds  and/or say these things just to be heard.

I'm sorry but all these things I read in this thread come over to me as utter unknowingness. If people experience something they don't know they immedietly think about; paranormal, telepathic, alien, religion, god, etc etc etc, blah blah blah. It's all nice that you experience these things and think much more of it then you should, but it doesn't means ghosts and souls are flying invisible through a store, it doesn't mean that a mother can be worried about her children through some unexplained link (mother's instinct), it doesn't mean that dead people are saying goodbye in your dreams, it doesn't means that there are several different dimensions beside this one!

I can only say one thing: It is all in your head.

Well, those things may not be physically tangible, but they are quite physically felt. After all, there are things that definitely exist, in so for as anything can be definite, and yet most people won't come by them even once in their lives. Those who will, will only by virtue of highly specialised equipment enhancing their senses that has only been invented recently. Can't say those things didn't exist before means were invented of perceiving them, can we?

As always, time will show. Perhaps they will prove some of so called ESP as facts in accordance with the laws of the universe. Perhaps not. Who knows. Who cares. I'll be earthworm's lunch when they do, so it won't make much difference for me.

Apeman -- It appears to me that you're being just a touch judgemental of those things you don't understand. I don't consider myself a fraud. The things I've experienced are quite real -- and frankly, I really hesitated discussing them here, precisely because of this kind of attitude from some people.

But, since I'm on a roll, I'll share another occurrence with you -- not that you would believe it of course...or at the least will try to explain it away as something else. ;)

Do you believe in premonitions? I've been having them periodically throughout my entire life, starting at a very young age. The most recent occurred last year:

The place that I used to work at had train tracks running about 20 feet behind the building. Most of the employees would go for lunch at a place across the street, coming out a side door (along the tracks). One day I did the same, but as I came out the door and started walking up the driveway to the main road, I experienced a "vision" of sorts for just 2 or 3 seconds -- a speeding train flying by, the sound of screeching brakes, metal on metal, and a scream. It all happened so fast, I turned around and looked at the tracks, shook it off and went and got my lunch. Two hours later, at about 3:00 pm, as I was sitting at my desk, I heard that horrific noise again -- ear piercing metal on metal -- and everyone on our floor started running to the windows, yelling at me to follow. That's right, someone, a homeless drug addict actually, had stumbled onto the tracks and the train couldn't stop in time. Coincidence? No one had ever been hit by a train there before...it's hardly something that happens every day. I know what I felt and saw, hours before it happened. Believe it or not. And it hasn't been the first time. Not everything that can't be understood, should be so easily dismissed, as what you say.

Look spellbound, it's nothing personal against any of you but the fact remains that most of the people who are experiencing these 'feelings' are a bit (I'm afraid to say this).......emotional (that's a better word than I was going to use). And if you look at the people who are researching these paranormal 'stuff' are also not the most realistic/relativistic person on this planet. Nothing wrong with those people but to me it's a complete waste of time to research these things, it's like wanting to know/research what happens if you die.

Also, look at the place where we are posting, it is a fantasy loving forum. Not earths biggest gathering of realistic persons if you ask me, with a few excpetions of people who do. Again nothing wrong with both of these groups. Honestly you have a good chance to meet people with the same 'weird' experiences.

Me? I'm probably the most down to earth, realistic, relativistic person on these boards which is quite odd for someone who loves fantasy books and games. That means that the entire concept of the paranormal or whatever you call it is entirely and utterly lost on me (I want to say thank god but I don't believe in that either, so I will just thank myself, not that I'm seeing myself as an upper being ;) )

Apeman -- Let's not confuse realistic with narrow-mindedness. ;) There' tons of people in this world with the same views as you -- and if it works for you, then that's all you can ask. But much of the world isn't as black and white as you portray--but instead is varying shades of gray. The people that refuse to acknowledge even the existence of things they don't right off understand, miss out on quite a bit, imo.

Hmmm.... I would disagree with that. One can enjoy fantasy gaming and still be a realist in their own life. Am I to understand you as saying that YOU are one of the exceptions? ;) And you say you're not God. :D (tsk..tsk)

Apeman, if you were born 400 years ago you would have said that radio and t.v. could not exist. Technology hadn't created them yet and there would have been no plausable scientific explanation. Invisible signals that can be picked up and changed into sound and picture?!? NO WAY!!! Definitely stuff of fantasy.

Let's just say that I do not see things and react to things with my emotions (not all things but the things we are talking about) I approach those with my rational piece of mind. People like you tend to approach these things with your emotion which makes it so much stronger and personal. I rationalize these things which makes them unimportant to me because I can get nothing positive about it. Oh and woman tend to do this more than men ;) .

Let's not confuse things here O.K. in that day there was no reason to think about these things. It's not like you can feel these invisible signals. We are talking purely about emotions here there is absolutely nothing scientific about this.

Oh and I only added that part of not being god to avert any comments about me being god when I thank myself, clearly I didn't see that remark coming.

It's ok Apeman...I was just joking with you. ;)

Oh... and women tend to be much more sensitive to their environments than men. (We finally agree on something! :D ) *Spelly opens the generalization door* :p

There is no proof either way if these things are only emotions or not. I personally think there are such bonds but i can't prove it to other people.

That's why I don't come down to alley that much because I can't explain exactly what I want to expres in english. But I'm going to be a regular from now on, I can only learn from it, so beware ;)

    :thumb:

Whether that's good or bad is of course up for debate but let's save that for another night shall we? :D
