At the moment im playing a level 12 druid. His prime role in the party is to enchance the fighting abilities of his comrades and summon creatures. However i am disappointed to see that the druid is overall weak as in NWN. This destroys the fun for me, because im playing a class which, in my opinion, didnt enter the game is it should have.

I was promised to see a half fighting class, yet my druid isnt able to survive nor deal any significant damage in a battle. However i may be doing something wrong. Therefore i ask for help.

How to play with a druid? How can one be a half fighter druid like it is supposed to be and like his class brother cleric(i so hate these ones) is? Tactics, spells... anything!

Also... i didnt find much use for the animal shapes, because they weaken my druids AC and most importently all of the enchantment cast before taking the form will disappear. Is there actually a point in them for a pure druid? Are elemental shapes pointless as well?

    Thanks for possible future help.

And i dont want to hear anything about dualing or multiclassing...

If you don't like the druid because simply you don't like it, then don't play with it.

However, since you have been playing with one, I think you'd like the druid class if it suited your needs.

Druids are not too strong at the beginning, and they are not warriors, fighters, brawlers. However, above level 14 they are powerful priests.

Their elemental forms are very massive, the Earth Elemental can kick the enemies' ass; the druid's other high-level abilities are also good.

Did you go with a plain druid? That might be the problem. Some of the kits are, IMO, much more powerful than the vanilla druid. Again, this will depend on how you like to play your druid. If you want a fighting-oriented druid, go for a Shapeshifter. The werewolf form is not great, but the Greater Werewolf packs a punch, with all physical stats in the 23-25 range. From your description though I guess you're more after a spellcasting druid, so the Avenger should be your thing (Chain Lightning anyone?)

I agree druids are weaker in the PC games than they should be according to D&D rules, but that's the problem with conversions. As for playing a vanilla druid, I have no tricks to share, as I think that compared to the 2 kits I mentionned they are very weak. Once you get to TOB things radically change, but that's OT. Anyway, if you're not going for a kit, the only powerful druid is a Fighter/druid multiclass :D

Druids are one of my favourite classes, I'd got the Avenger kit, granted they do have worse strength and constitution, and can't wear more then leather armour. But, you will find good enough armour somewhere in the game, I did, and their extra spells and forms kick ass! Get him(or her) a good quarter staff(one of the elemental summoning ones) and some darts.

I totally agree. I think it's stupid to ditch the druid just because you thought it could fight very well. You don't want to use your druid as one of your main tank, his shapeshifts are indeed great at later levels, and his spells will make you want to keep him in your party. You just have to accept that his tanking-abilities suck early on.

No druids are excellent! Insect plague weakens mages considerably. Iron Skins will save your ass against mages and fighters, powerful summons, poison spells ets make a great class to play.

Though I would take a kit over a plain druid anyday.

And let's not forget two spells: Creeping Doom and Nature's Neauty. Creeping Doom is overpowered already, but Nature's Beauty is truly boken. It's almost (but not quite) as bad as Project Image, WITHOUT involving the use of any cheese on top of it!

I used an Avenger and other than a Kensai it's by far my favourite class in the game. With Iron Skins, The Nights Gift, and two scimitars he was always a threat. I never found him weak or anything, mostly because I bought a belt of Giants strength and who needs a high constituiton when you can cast Iron Skins and not worry about getting hit.
