A very quick update as "real-world" occurrences preclude anything longer today....

Duharrel and company were startled by a messenger from Anomen's father - seems his sister had died and Anomen's father needed to speak with him. Duharrel basically told Anomen that that was his problem and to suck it up. Anomen thought about that for a minute and hung in with the group for a bit, intending to get home as quickly as he could.

Sure enough, Anomen talked Duharrel into slinking away while everyone else was asleep one night and found out that his sister had been kidnapped because Delryn the Elder had made a significant business enemy who had driven him into bankruptcy. Then, the enemy offered to allow Anomen's sister to try to work off the debt by streetwalking. She accepted without her father's knowledge. One night, however, she failed to make "quota" and the "pimp" became enraged, killing her and sending a finger home to "pops". That was when Delryn the Elder sent the messenger to Anomen - he wanted revenge.

His usual indecisive self, Anomen looked to Duharrel for advice. Duharrel didn't hesitate - remember that good and evil were not comprehensible concepts to him. However, cause and effect were. The enemy caused pain - end the enemy, end the pain...
Anomen concocted a story for Korgan and the others, filling their minds with images of gold, jewels and other riches if they broke into the enemy's compound. Convinced, they gathered their stuff, briefed Yosh on his duties as scout and entered the compound in the dark of the night.

As luck would have it, Yosh, despite being very careful, even after imbibing a specially purchased potion, was noticed while selfishly looting a drawer and a major fight ensued. Turns out the enemy was a minor magician of a sort and guards streamed in from everywhere. Again the gods smiled on Duharrel and crew... thunder and lightning cracked from Aerie's hands, nearly frying the pimp magician... Skeletons arose from the floor near Anomen and his mace had a flickering aura. The guards were disposed of within minutes and the silence almost deafened Boo after the clamor of the fight.
Anomen sank to the floor in tears and waved the others away and the others looted the mansion, "leaving no stone untouched" as Minsc would say. Aerie even stole a really nice curtain to make herself a new green robe.

While everyone else disposed of their loot at the local fence, Anomen took Duharrel along home with him to report to "daddy". Daddy turned out to be as much a nothing as Anomen and barely said thank you before he headed out and disappearing. No wonder Anomen is such a "wus". Anomen made one crack about his knighthood and not being kept from it by the Order, but his tone indicated that he remained the semi-spoiled brat Duharrel thought he was.

    More to come .....

The nerve of those guys! While transiting back towards the Graveyard (via the Bridge District) to resume Korgan's search for his book (not at his urging, but Duharrel figured - what the hey?), "the party was waylaid" by a group of slavers... Turns out that I have finally found what this party is good at, simple sword-swinging ass-kicking for goodness. The rolls seem to have changed in favor of our hero and this ambush last less time than it took write and read about.

Duharrel is beginning to think that the city might not be the safest place in the world for him as, after leaving the Bridge District for the Graveyard via the City Gates area, the party was AGAIN waylaid... this time by a group dragging along an apparently poisoned captive. Aerie thought this was unforgivable and impetuously cast MMs at the guy standing nearest the captive. Well, what she forgot was that the two parties were passing through each other and were actually intermixed rather than separated. So, when Anomen cried out and raised his hands to the heavens, both he and Aerie were struck dumb (speechless) effectively turning the encounter into a mere brawl, well if you can call fighting for you lives a "mere brawl" that is. Then Aerie grabbed the pink feather she had found earlier and playfully stuck up atop Duharrel's helm (though he didn't see the humor in it, his 'feminine' side allowed her to get away with it). She pointed it at the leader of the other group and waved it...... Duharrel was psychologically stunned and nearly blinded when sparks flew from the feather! Korgan, always preferring the smell of blood to philosophical discussion, having unsheathed Stonefire in order to adjust the leather grip, took Aerie's actions as a call for his "daily exercise" and began swinging wildly. Minsc, spurred on by a nip from Boo, rushed to stand protectively over the fallen captive's body and nearly swung at Yosh who rushed over to cover Minsc's back. One of the enemy party cowardly took a swing at Anomen while he knelt to pray (man, he relies on Divine assistance a lot doesn't he?). This messed up Anomen's prayers and got him really pissed. Uttering a battle cry of curses that he would later have to seek absolution for in the confessional, Anomen stood and swung his mace instantly introducing the transgressor to his own supreme being, whatever that might have been.

The captive spoke weakly of being poisoned and requesting to be taken to the Harper's Hold before drifting off into a coma. Duharrel allowed Aerie and Anomen to convince him that this wouldn't take too long and might result in a small reward for little effort. So, shouldering the limp body, off Duharrel strode followed by the rest.

The party's arrival in the Docks was cause for a verbal assault by an over-zealous cleric. This cleric made the mistake of trying to gain instant verbal oaths of allegiance to his God from all in the party - after running around and hanging cheap strings of beads on each of their necks. Korgan took umbrage at that as did Duharrel (no one touches Duharrel without his permission, and seldom even then). Both swung for the far parts of the cleric's body and their swings resulted in a neatly carved corpse that was left where it fell. Surprisingly, no one seemed to notice (and no reputation was lost).

Continuing the search for the Harper's Hold, the party was pestered by beggars who were rude when refused alms. After the third "beggar assault", Duharrel decided that speech was wasted breath, so he returned his club to his belt and merely punched out any beggar who approached. Seemed to work after the third beggar was left bleeding senseless in front of the Sea's Bounty.

Arriving at the Harper's Hold, Duharrel tossed the body at the feet of the doorman and began to walk off. Aerie and Yosh (surprisingly) stayed behind to explain what had happened. Korgan mentioned that the Sea's Bounty had a pretty good tavern brew to Minsc and Duharrel and just as they were about to enter the tavern, a robed figure approached them asking if the had need of quick money. Korgan always liked quick and easy money, Duharrel was beginning too and Minsc figured that anything good enough for Duharrel was good enough for him. So, they took a second to listen to the robed man's story and proposal... It involved finding an errant thief investigating the Hold. About this time, Anomen, having finally decided to try to be one of the "men" rather than with the more feminine party members, walked up and the four began the walk back down to the Hold... They picked Aerie and Yosh back up, returned to the Hold's doormen and asked about the errant thief.

The doorman was initially uncooperative but quickly became compliant after Duharrel raised his voice to verify the "This IS the Harper's Compound, isn't it?..." Something seemed a bit off when the doorman shushed them and finally let them inside.. but inside they went. Deciding to follow Yosh's example, after all he had claimed to have had some experience and difficulties with the local Thieves Guild, they all hugged the right side of the entryway's wall and followed it to a small hallway. Stashing the group in an alcove, Yosh did some quick reconnoitering and also took advantage the opportunity to pilfer some empty offices. One thing he did consider but reject taking as undisposable was a necklace of sorts... it would too easily be recognizable as Harper-owned. So, he returned to the group and they sneaked their way up the stairs to the second floor.

Almost immediately, the group was accosted by three misty disembodied voices who questioned and then attacked them. Aerie pointed her fingers and feather and sparks flew at the mists. Korgan charged left, Duharrel straight ahead and Minsc attacked on the right flank as Yosh and Anomen were caught napping. Duharrel noticed that the mists didn't disperse as he expected when he swung his club - instead, there was resistance in the mist and a resultant moaning with each "contact". Recognizing the sound of "pain" at an animal level of consciousness, Duharrel was emboldened and continued his attack, swinging with abandon... Finally, the mist did disperse and the moaning ceased. Likewise, Korgan and Minsc had cleared the air around themselves and the room appeared clear and safe for the moment.........

Duharrel heard chirping and figured a bird have somehow flown inside the building.. but he went to investigate anyway. Instead, he found a large cage with more than one bird inside... The aviary was really fairly large.. but why anyone would keep birds inside eluded Duharrel's comprehension - they were too easy to just knock out of the air out in nature... Anyway, while Duharrel was watching the birdies and Aerie was trying to feed one, Yosh had done his usual snooping and found a note in a drawer saying something about a man having been turned into a bird. He relayed this information to the group and Aerie giggled briefly before she opened the door, walked into the aviary and stuck out her finger. A single bird flew directly to her finger and landed upon it. As she petted and cooed at it, Minsc was proud, believing that this little girl was following in his footsteps by having a pet.

Yosh quickly looted the rest of the floor.... getting Aerie and Anomen to read numerous runic covered parchments and pointing out a store of throwing axes that Korgan quickly stuffed into his knapsack... Yosh also discovered a second floor exit and lead the group out that way rather than gamble on being discovered coming back down the main stairs (as usual, Minsc had wandered rather than directly following the others on the way up).

Intending to take the bad news from the note to the robed man, the group headed back towards the Sea's Bounty and sure enough, there the robed man waited. Duharrel told the man of the note while Aerie petted her birdie. The man asked to see the bird and Aerie cautiously gave it to him. The man waved his hands over the bird and sprinkled a pinch of salt on its wings. With a *poof*, the bird transformed into a man with a sword who immediately attacked the robed man with a single blow. Instinctively, Duharrel attacked the man who shouted that the robed man died because he had crossed the Harper's. Korgan's great axe connected twice before the man ran off bleeding... No one in the party felt like chasing him.. after all, he had left the robed man lying in the street to be looted - and if they didn't loot the body, the beggars would.

So, despite having begun the day trying to return to the Graveyard and help Korgan find his book, they ended the day further from the tombstone farm than they had begun it.

    More to come....

What I am wondering is how this party can stay together? I mean, Korgan is one of THE most evil characters (okay, NPCs) in the game while Minsc and Aeire are BOTH goody goodies. And as Anomen hasn't yet done his thing with the knighthood test and all, isn't he making dialogue about righteousness and following the good path?

But, keep it coming. I have a bet with a friend about how long your party stays intact and which way it tips if/when it disintegrates.

drm must be prescient! I say that because of what just happened...

Duharrel decided that he would respond to a message to meet some dude in the Government District before they headed off on Korgan's questa again. Following the walk straight ahead rule, their entry at the north western corner of the Govt map meant that they proceeded counter-clockwise around the square in the center of the District - or at least they started out that way.

Duharrel and party stumbled onto what looked like a roasting party, at least it kind of smelled that way - you know what singed flesh smells like, right? Anyway, this girl being roasted and toasted called out to Duharrel by name - how the heck she knew his name, he had no idea.. but she was kinda cute. So, our brawny, mixed-up, transgendered hero(ine) sauntered over to see what she wanted - and actually figured out (by hiimself) that she wanted to NOT burn!

Minsc began getting outraged at the ingnominy of it all while Korgan just tipped over a crate and sat down to watch the fireworks. Aerie, of course, offered pity and sympathy while Anomen kept conspicuously silent. Finally, the wench at the stake called for a decision by Duharrel to help her or not. Anomen finally spoke up - as heartless and self-righteous as ever, he advised against any assistance.

Duharrel noticed that the fantatics and commoners were all treating this girl as he himself had been treated ... with insult and scorn. For the first time in his life, he felt a true kindred spirit in the burning girl. So, he knocked one of the guards aside and untied the girl. She immediately waved her hands, issued a Drow insult and war cry and swung at her former captors. This turn of events took Korgan by surprise and he nearly fell over as he tried to regain his feet when the fanatical crowd itching for the burning reacted by surging forward.

"Fights on" as they say and swords, clubs and arrows made metallic music in the square before the prison as our party defended itself against guards and crowd alike. The Drow matched Duharrel swing for swing, fighting at his shoulder and covering his back as well as Minsc once had. Korgan finally cleared enough room to stand up by chopping the legs out from under the front ranks of the crowd while Aerie ran for a clear spot to use her sling from. Yosh blended into the crowd, periodically slipping out to let fly an arrow or two then disappearing again. As suddenly as it started, the din of battle subsided and all stood breathing heavily but surprisingly unmarked.

The Drow introduced herself again and offered to join the party. Minsc, ever the galant ladies' man, argued that since they had saved her, they must accept her. Aerie nearly stormed off in a fit of pique while Anomen had a premonition that he had been a bit too snooty and snotty with other members in earlier converstation. Viconia rightly claimed that it was up to Duharrel to decide as he was leading the party, not any of the others. So, after noting Korgan's lecherous gleam, Duharrel nodded to Viconia while turning his right thumb down to Anomen.

Anomen nearly broke down and cried as he begged to remain in the party. However, seeing that that was pointless, he tried to retain some dignity by offering to hang out and wait for Duharrel in the Copper Coronet should Duharrel change his mind and wish to repartner.

Sooooooooooooooooo, a major change in party compostion has occured.... The impact of this was actually immediately noticed by the unfortunate Minsc when he realized that they were no longer a party "for goodness" and he started bitching. Aerie too was upset and complained vociferously. (I took a quick look and found that party rep was down to 5 though how it got to 7 I am not sure.. the last 2 points were due simply to accepting Viccy into the party remember).

This changed all plans for business in the District and Viccy suggesed that a temple could be found where offerings should be made. Korgan agreed, so off to the Promenade they went again only to be "waylaid" enroute. Now, Viccy's strength having been sapped by her ordeal at the stake, she was unable to wear any decent armor carried by the party. So, she literally tried to hide behind Duharrel as he fought the interlopers. But Yosh was proud of her sneaking out from behind Duharrel to bash the head of an enemy when he was distracted or not looking straight at her.

Finally, the slaughter ended and the party reached a temple of Ilmater where offerings were made. This and the purchase of a new belt for Viccy nearly exhausted the party's bankroll, barely leaving enough for new armor and a mace. Yosh donated a bauble he had intended to trade for sexual favors to one of the strumpets over at the Coronet and Viccy wound up with a shield... So, all were to ready try again to retireve Korgan's book.

Very quick update.. Viccy hass made her first move on Duharrel... Having never played this romance, I am going to have fun imagining it as a 1/2Orc & Drow lesbian thing... 8-) Who said BG2 was a limited play game?

This is going to be a fairly short update as playing is too much fun right now...

A funny thing happened on the way to Hell... actually on the Unseeing Eye Quest...

Real dialogue coming --- Right after battling the Empathic Manifestation and talking with the Diseased One, Viconia chose that specific time to tell Duharrel of her life after BG1... the farm and her revenge.... Immediately after, almost as if to try to "top" Viconia, Aerie tried her shtick with "do my scars make me ugly?"

Viconia was having none of that and put the little wench in her place with a couple pithy remarks - "What do you expect him to say? That your scars add character?" - stuff along those lines...

Duharrel had responded as neutrally as possible, playing the dialog line where any additional information will allow him to better chose the allies and path most llikely to ensure his survival. This and his neutral response to Aerie's story seemed to encourage Viconia.

Basically, Aerie wimped out of the cat fight and just shut up... Duharrel has a definite interest going with Viconia it seems!!! 1/2 Orc loving seems to be somewhere in the foreseeable future!

    --More as time warrants--

    Episode - Arachnidland

Well, Korgan has become very quiet as he has nothing to bitch about. The party finally got back to the tombtone garden without incident and returned to the underground area. After a bit of exploring and frying arachnids, Korgan found one particular door area interesting. Aerie hung back for a second and prayed while Viconia just uttered Drow curses - or so it seemed.

In they went and, to compress the boring and describe only the interesting, the battle was on. Aerie waved her hands and Minsc's great sword found itself picking up speed in mid-swing; so did everyone else! Korgan looked like a farmer mowing down weeds in a field as his dual-wielded axes sliced and diced dead apparitions that charged from the flanks. Duharrel picked out the largest enemy and headed straight towards him. At the last second, Duharrel became distracted by a hairy arm and swung at it instead. This was a huuuuuuuge mistake as the big pile of bones he had intended to attack got in three shots before Duharrel's attention was again focused on him. Now bleeding profusely, Duharrel noticed that he was weaker, his club less effective with each swing.

Viconia came to aid him, Drow cries echoing off the walls of the chamber. Duharrel noticed this and became stronger just knowing she was there. His club again became effective and he swung at the joints rather than at the middle of the bones - they separated in long arcs and bounced off the walls.

By fight's end, Minsc and Aerie had paired similarly to Duharrel and Viccy( - I expect that this will be the way the party will continue unless Aerie really gets ticked and leaves).

Korgan's cursing at not finding his book made even Viccy proud (even teaching her a new word or two) as they tried to loot the already ransacked areas. Viccy was walking a bit slower than she had and Aerie noticed it. She suggested a quick rest but Duharrel figured that if he could go on, THEY could go on. So, back the way they came ....

Again, following the straight ahead rule, Korgan noticed a large mound barely visible in the darkness of the underground. What the hey, Duharrel thought and so, on they went... Sure enough, there was an opening... But whoever heard of people changing into spiders? Duharrel HATES spiders! Especially when he doesn't have his special salve to anesthetize the little infections they cause when they bite.

A quick but bloody battle left three of our intepid crew extremely weak, with pustules forming from little bites. To himself, Duharrel thought, "I knew I hate spiders...even when they crunch after being fried." Aerie and Viccy had their hands full tending wounds. Twice Aerie removed and replaced a poultice Viccy had put on one wound only to watch the pustule reemerge. Viccy thrust Aerie away from Duharrel, now grey and weakening, replaced the poutice and stood over him with her mace. "Remove it again and you die bitch. Go try to kill someone else," Viccy told Aerie. A moan from Minsc inspired Aerie to try just that and she knet befor himto pray. She prayed really really hard, for if she couldn't have Duharrel, well, Minsc had always been nice to her. Yosh was the third greyling party member. Korgan rummaged through his backpack, tossed Yosh a bottle of blood wine and indicated that at least Yosh should leave the world feeling better. Distracting while taking a swing, Yosh suddenly felt a knife slicing his arm open - Korgan was bleeding him, an old medical strategy that was of sometimes questionable value. However, this time it worked... though it took the loss of nearly two pints of blood before the color began to return to Yosh's cheeks. "Pass my wine back," Korgan muttered as he leaned back up against the wall frustrated that the others hadn't jsut shacken off the little bites like he had.

There was nothing for it but that the crew needed to sleep. Somehow, they did - even without setting a fire watch. Korgan awoke with a start and loudly gathered his stuff... They headed out, back to the Copper Coronet and climbed the roof where Korgan remembered his former crew had hiddne some stuff. Hs former colleagues proved little match for our group - except for Korgan himself. Seeming to focus on Korgan, his former group concentrated their attacks on him and down he went, bleeding from extremity. Still, one after the other, Korgan's new companions avenged his death, separating a head from a torso here, eviscerating another man there. After the fight, Duharrel began to loot Korgan's body, even Viconia was stunned by the callousness of it.

She went over as if to help, but actually began eulogizing Korgan as she packed his stuff away carefully into her pack. Something about her manner struck Duharrel and he began to copy her attitude. After the others finished looting the other bodies, Viconia just stood up and tried to carry Korgan's body. At first not comprehending what she was trying to do, Duharrel just watched; when she bent down to try to bend him over her shoulders, Duharrel went over to help her balance the load... Her legs couldn't handle the weight and she collapsed in a cursing mound. With one hand, Duharrel grabbed Korgan, with the other he placed Viconia on her feet again though she fought and scratched at him like a pissed-off cat (more from embarrassment than from anger at Duharrel I think). In any case, Viconia led the way and the others followed - to the temple.

Enroute. Minsc and Aerie discussed how large a funeral pyre they could afford for Korgan - Yosh was more concerned about the cost. Duharrel watched as Viconia's face scowled deeper and deeper as they approached the Temple. Inside, she motioned Duharrel to lay the body on the altar despite the priest's complaints. "Raise him," she demanded of the priest. Stammering, he backd away. Viccy's deliberate manner and her stride intimidated the priest enough that he fled the temple, dropping a parchment as he ran. Viccy picked it up, glanced over it and returned to the altar. She indicated that the others should bar and guard the door as she gathered artifacts and placed them around Korgans and the altar. Finally, she placed a coin in Korgan's mouth and began..... wailing and ranting, ripping her clothes and Korgans', rubbing his body and pouring noxious liquids over it. Suddenly, she grabbed a candle and touched the flame to one of Krogan's arms... He moved.... then jumped up and bitched, "what're ye tryin' t' do to me ye Drow bitch?" Aerie's eyes were wide, Yosh slumped in disappointment (he wouldn't be able to fence that big axe now) while Minsc and Duharrel just shrugged.

Even Duharrel recognized, however, what the ceremony had taken out of Viconia. They headed over to the Coronet again, bought the bar out of blood wine, rented rooms and slept.

Quick update as no one has posted/replied to allow a new post and prevent a doouble post...

Duharrel and group rented a room, well beds actually, at the Inn of Seven Vales. When they went upstairs to grab those beds, they found some idiots already in them. Duharrel was very quickly insulted and had no choice but to respond in kind - with a swing of the club absoultely encouraged by Korgan.

Before everyone but Viconia became confused in the heat of battle, a few serious wounds erupted on the insulting party. Viconia managed to keep her wits and strove to stay sane during the fight. So, everyone but Viconia is running around swinging blindly, or just running around, and she reaches into her pack to release Kithix as well as blow on a horn and call forth a single berserk fighter. This provides just enough distraction away from her that she actually managed to cast a successful hold on Pebblecrusher (another first for me) as well as getting a Dispel Magic to take against the mage (which also usually DOESN'T happen for me).

Essentially, despite having been extremely nervous about this fight because the group is what I consider to be fghter heavy and spellcaster deficient, wound up with none of our intrepid crew dead or even half-dead. Duharrel and cohorts found that brawn can overcome brains even with limited weaponry - all it takes is a little luck.

    More to come..........

That's funny as hell... Viconia alone against the world! Actually, it sounds sort of familiar and particularly appropriate to her background/biography.

Taking a page from tjekanfir's (sp?) authorship style, here's a quick up date after playing most of the evening....

    Finished the following quests....
Unseeing Eye - ridiculously easy, perfect area for a group to mindlessly brawl.

Red cloth patch/kidnappers quest (forgot the name) - easy except for when Duharrel went back to laugh at/kill or release(?) the noblewoman after accepting the ransom money - hey, Korgan insisted and who was to know.

Mae Var's quests - mostly brawling.. little magic... made to order for this group. Now, that one mage up on the third floor of his house DID panic a couple guys, but Aerie (somehow) kept her cool and went toe to toe with him long enough for Duharrel to get in a mighty swing (actually missing Korgan who he was chasing around the room and hitting the enemy mage instead).

Nalia's Keep - again a great brawling area, especially against the golem and umber hulks. Duharrel, Minsc and korgan were really in their element here. But there's a thought/picture - Duharrel the nobleman exercising the Right of Prima Nocte with each person on his land... man or woman! hehehe

More to come as events warrant and opportunity presents itself.....

Duharrel and Viconia are DEEEEEEP into the romance talk... "It's lookin' good" as they say...

Anyway, the Trademeet/Dao quest was ridiculously easy for Duharrel. Instead of doing what actually appeared easist - just kill the damn Dao Djinni's outright - he allowed Viconia to lead him from the tent to the Grove... However, many trolls flaming later and the group stumbled on an old lady's house. The wrinkled old biddy turned red as soon as they entered the room - so much for choices! No choices equals blood and lots of it. Turned out to be very very little of our group's blood. Korgan thought that the head that was found might look food hanging on his trophy wall (literary license there).

They hooked back up with Cernd and watched him kick Faldorn's ass - nothing like standing by while you want to actually play the damn game, eh? Duharrel was amazed as he watched Cernd turn into a Werewolf.... He actually gripped the hilt of his +3 v Shapeshifter sword and almost jumped down into the pit to take Faldorn's side... Viconia held him back though and all came out well.. The Grove is now green again, soon to be forgotten as no druids are along for this ride.

Returning to Trademeet, Duharrel was ever so slightly amused when artisans asked him to pose for a statue in his honor. While standing and admiring his likeness, another old biddy came and asked for help with her scared son. The Riejakn (sp?) fight was nearly over before it began - Minsc's first swing was awesome as were Korgan's and Duharrel's. One arrow from Yosh and the baddie had bitten the dust.

So, though a bit of computer time was eaten up today, very very few challenges to the group.. though all are still level 11 or below.

A comment - having never played with Korgan before, I find that his enrage ability is much more predictable, and therefore useful, than Minsc's berserker rage. Comments?

    More as events warrant.

Yes, I noticed this too. When Korgan goes berserk he never attacks party members while Minsc almost always does. Also, I'm not sure, but I think that Minsc's berserk doesn't offer the same immunities as Korgan's - like from Imprisonment or level drain. Could be wrong though, go fight Kangaxx and find out ;)

Btw: don't change your writing style! the storytelling is excellent, I'd rather hear how Viconia tore her clothes off in frenzy than just battle descriptions.

    Well, Trademeet is completely history.

Duharrel was approached by the two noble families looking for social supremacy in the town. They wanted a certain item from a tomb - as usual, the rich using the poor to do what they cannot or do not want to do themselves. Duharrel thought of turning both families and the head high mucky muck down and just moving on, but Korgan and Yosh - ever the financial wizards they are - concinveced Duharrel that this was worth looking into. Heck, they might even be able to upgrade their weapons after getting the reward.

Into the breach they went, after being assaulted by someone infected with the disease of "the neverending questions." Duharrel found it relatively easy to ignore this poor "jaluk" (a word that Viconia had whispered in his ear just before she nipped him with her teeth), however, Korgan wanted to eviscerate the poor boy. Aerie thought he was cute and Minsc felt that even HE was finally smarter and more socially "ept" (think 'not 'inept') than someone!

Anyway, into the tomb they went, expecting a huge dungeon crawl like that they had previously survived, they were surprised to find mere skeletons, though large ones inhabiting a single room. Duharrel's club made short work of two skels before the others even reacted to the threat. That left two for the others - sure enough they were up to the task - but Viconia must have really been turned on by the dim light as she picked this time to talk about her increasing attraction to Duharrel - big muscles, powerlust and the like.

Upon leaving the tomb with the goods they had sought, Korgan suggested something truly devious - offer the iconic valuable to the highest bidder by traipsing back and forth between teh families' compound.. let them bid each other into the ground. The winning bidder might get the item, but would be broke while the losing bidder would undisputably the richest in Trademeet... Yosh got a good laugh out of that idea!

Even Duharrel saw the humor in that. Unfortunately, after trying it, the matriarch of one family jetted in and began a fight in the home of the other family. Now, having not expected any such fireworks, Duharrel wasn't prepared and Aerie and Viccy's prayerful preparation took time.... Again, the unexpected happened and all but Korgan and Viccy became confused in the melee. Once again Minsc went weird and decided to start swinging away at Duharrel. Not cool.. So, Duharrel swung back while caught between the two feuding families.

When the dust cleared, Viccy, Duharrel and Korgan alone still stood - then that wimpy ex-adventuring mayor came in a "forgave" them.. the nerve! Korgan had to hold Duharrel back from swinging for the mayor's spine! Luckily, somewhere along the line, Duharrel had picked up and hung onto a weird looking branch.. Viccy noticed it and twirled it to see if its heft was right to make into a staff. To everyone's surprise, when she lost control and it hit Yosh's ded body, he came back to life... Hmm, let's try Aerie... tada... Duharrel had to think hard before he let Viccy do the same to Minsc though.. Afterall, Duharrel still bled from Minsc-given wounds. Finally, he gave in after a lot of begging from Aerie.

Well, well, well... Duharrel with Viccy and Minsc with Aerie? Cool.

Then again, I think someone else has posted that Aerie and Minsc hook up if you turn her down....

Well, when are you heading out to the Hills - either Umar or Windspears? Does Duharrel liek dragon hunting?

Episode - Land of Dark Shadows.

Out to the 'burbs and badlands of Umar Hills Duharrel and company trudged - that kid HAD said something about trouble out there... Anyway, a quick look around and talking to some locals and off into the woods again they went.

After trudging northward long enough that Aerie bitched (as usual) for a rest, Duharrel finally gave in and lay down - and sure enough, they were assaulted in the dark of the night. Eventually, they stumbled across a cabin, had Aerie been willing to wait, Duharrel thought, they could have sleep out of the rain, damn her hide.

As they explored the house, they broke in a locked door only to find that a sniveling cur stood behind it vainly imitating someone with courage. The cowardly bastard tried to make Duharrel go back on his word to the Cowled Wizards to bring a murderer back to Athkala. Duharrel and Korgan had little problem with doing so, but Minsc and Aerie actually thought living up to one's word was something people should do. So, since the cowardly murderer wouldn't return with them quietly, Duharrel and crew had no choice but to kill the bastard. Living up to her whiney self, Aerie cried crocodile tears over the death, enough to get Minsc to bitch about killing rangers not being a good thing and threatening to leave. After ransacking the house, Yosh noticed that Minsc and Aerie were all bluff as both were still with Duharrel.

Heading south, another cabin was found and ransacked.... some notes gave a hint of Umar Hills' trouble coming from a northern source. Not quite ready to head that way, Duharrel lead the group back towards town only to come across a group of monsters with a strange story. They were so sickeningly subservient and subordinate, Duharrel didn't waste the time killing them. He did mention this encounter to the mayor as they shared a brew at the tavern that night. The mayor figured that he would head out and hire the mosnters as a combination tourist attraction and "scarecrow" group.

Anyway, the group finally headed out northward. In the darkest forest Diharrel had ever seen, they wandered around periodically being attacked by shapes that came from nowhere. Finally, they were attacked by a horde of these translucent apparitions, each succesful attack on Duharrel's group taking its toll on the group's energy, morale and life. Despite the difficulty in hitting ethereal targets, Duharrel and group survived after they formed a circle to protect each other's backs and Minsc tripped over Aerie's foot - falling into what looked like a mirror. This caused a brilliant light to emerge and the apparitions began to vanish in the light. The group gathered itself and then stumbled across a hole in the ground... Korgan began to froth at the mouth as he led the group down into the bowels of the earth.

Viconia was in her element, below ground in the dark. She led the way and found that she had a natural affinity for dispatching the terrors and apparitions in the seemingly endless corridors of darkeness. At a few locations, Duharrel was thrust aside by both Viconia and Aerie as each struggled to show Duharrel how smart she was. Eventually, the group had a large wardstone and faced a stairway from which emanated evil of the most dire sort - Korgan and Viconia wer obviously excited by the stench and feel.

Down they went, hugging the left hand wall. They reached another staircase, this one appearing to lead further downward...... colder, stinking of some serious evil and even Viconia joined Aerie in prayer. Into the darkness and cold they went - only to find that the staircase actually wound upwards after a bend or two. Duharrel was assaulted from behind, Minsc from the front and Korgan just closed his eyes and swung. Yosh popped a potion of invisbility and headed around what appeared to be the type of clearing that he had heard the dark druids held their midsummer debaucheries in. Seeing an opening, Yosh jumped up on a marble slab only to break it. Simultaneously, the shadowy form that was attacking Minsc vanished as did those facing Duharrel and Korgan. The moon suddenly burst through the breaking clouds and Duharrel saw the fallen body of a halfling.

Yosh, as usual, did the dirty deed of rifling through the pockets of the dead and found that this might be one of the lost crew that Duharrel had heard a barkeep say was lost. Where there was one lost figure, the other(s) might be found... So, back through the darkness of the underground the group went, this time searching all the nooks and cranies they found - some they had simply bypassed as not being "straight ahead" earlier. A glint on the floor turned out to be a key they had overlooked earlier and eventually they found a door that it fit. An atypically bitchy female halfling insulted Duharrel at the wrong time and was quickly dispatched without regret - well, none by him at least, though Aerie was ourtraged and nearly stormed off. Minsc, ever the champion ofthe oppressed and hard up at not getting any since Dynaheir's unfortunate eparture from the Prime Material Plane, agreed vociferously with Aerie and even went so far as to draw Boo from his pocket and indicate that the two of them would attack Duharrel should such an attack against an innocent ever occur again in their presence.

So it wa a sullen but richer crew that headed back towards Umar Hills.... On the way, all but Yosh had a good laugh when he tried to disarm a trapped strongbox only to have the "trap" turn out to be a n animal! The damn thing spat and bit at all of them, eventually landing its grubby little incisors on Yosh's codpiece and he howled like a banshee! Since all of the guys and Viconia were killing themselves laughing at the sight, Aerie was forced to point her fingers at Yosh's groin and hope for the best... Yosh just wouldn't stand still and make it easy for her! Anyway, eventually, all was taken care of except that yosh walked a bit funny all the way back to town.

On the way into town, Yosh shot a chicken for dinner (it was the least the town owed them all he figured). As they headed into the town, two boys also came runnnig up - sorta Pied Piper style and kept pestering the group about wanting to play "swords and sorcerer" and "swill some ale like the big boys." Duharrel figured, "what the hey?" tossed them two cheap and nearly broken swords that he had learned wouldn't bring even a copper from a merchant along with a nearly empty wine bola. "Don't drink it all in one place," he muttered over his shoulder as he walked away from the adolscents, one of them already nearly slicing the other's ear off.

So. Did the group battle the dragon or did they wimp out?

[IMG] I have to admit that Yoshimo is getting very sympathic! I didn't like him in my games and dumped him for the turnip-eater. But your Yoshimo is a hell of a lot of fun! I'll enjoy it (as long as Y. lasts...).

    More of these!!!
