I was in a Chapters the other day, and went for the gaming section, cause I wanted to peruse a Pathfinder book or two. One thing I noticed is a fresh batch of D&D 3.5e books, still in their plastic wrap.

So, naturally a few questions pop up. Another press run? Even though 3.5e was supposed to have been retired in favour of 4e? Seems more odd now that there's more competition present in the form of Pathfinder. Also, Mystra's officially back in the wake of the Elminster Enraged book. Is this an admission that they dropped the ball by trying to Warcraft the D&D game with 4e?

I hope this a wake up call that the market isn't all made up of people who wanted everything 'dumbed down' to utter simplicity. Plenty of us who still like complex rule sets, and the character designing and combat challenges that come with it. Sorry if I sound like a snob, but I just didn't like the direction so much of the RPG world was heading in.

    *EDIT*

Ok, I looked around for a bit, and a 5th edition is on the way. Pretty short life for 4e, and deservedly so in my honest opinion.

So I'll also expand this thread's scope to include discussion of the upcoming 5th edition as well.

Maybe they just discovered a lost batch in a warehouse somewhere?

Tal that is what I was thinking. They had some left overstock of 3.5ED books laying around somewhere and decided to put them out. I have seen walmart do the same with really old Yu-gi-oh! Packs from the original series.

Yeah, that would be wierd. Why revive an old version when they could just take 80 - 90% of it, make a few changes, and call it 5.0. That way everyone has to buy new books. Profit!

Here is the basic business model:
    1.Collect Underpants
    2. ?
    3.Profit

It is was shame when they ruined Forgotten realms. I liked Mystra.
