    This ain't a recipe for Shepherds pie guv, this be Cottage pie.
    hmmm, attempted accents don't work very well when written down.

    Anyway, Shepherds pie uses lamb - clue is in the name. Kinda makes a difference to Hindu's and people with Dairy allergies.

    It is a cottage pie recipe - but I have always seen cottage pie defined as being a sub-class of shepherd's pie using beef as the type of minced meat. Technically, I think you can use any type of minced meat and it still remains a shepherd's pie.

    JSBB, Whilst cottage pie and shepherds pie are indeed closely related, the similarity is like that between lettuce and cabbage.

    Shepherds pie is made from lamb, but is also containing, amongst the different spices; peas.

    On the other hand, cottage pie contains beef, but also MUST contain sliced carrot. Otherwise it is just a beef pie. ;) Shepherds pie doesnt contain carrot, at least if it does, it cannot be called a shepherds pie.
