Probably one of the strongest domains, so far as personal power is concerned, is Magic, simply for the granted power. The granted power allows you to use all of those spell trigger and spell completion items of sorcerers and wizards... like wands and scrolls (though you'll want a good Spellcraft for the scrolls). It greatly increases your flexibility, and allows you to lay down with the occasional fireball if you can get a scroll (and since you have fairly easy access to Read Magic, you'll know if its a Fireball scroll... and spell trigger and spell completion items can be cast in armor with no arcane spell failure).

Other domains, I'm not so sure on. I remember having great fun in 3e with a multiclass gnome cleric/illusionist; 1 level of Cleric of Baravar Cloakshadow, with the Gnome and Illusion domains. You know, those domain granted powers don't say *anything* about only casting your cleric illusion spells at +1 level (and, technically, the PH didn't say anything about only sacrificing cleric spells for healing energy), so by 6th level, I was 5th level wizard, casting illusions at 7th level proficiency, with a DC of 19 + spell level (I hadn't figured out the Shadow Weave, yet, but had both spell focus and greater spell focus). I was a level behind other wizards, but a lot more powerful in illusions.
