Charming Glaicas in De'Arnise keep

Usually RoHI and a Dispel/Remove Magic. He turns red for a split-second, then blue. Then he gives me the flail head and goes away.

Maybe not with UB. But without it, you'd have to wait around until the charm wore off before he would talk to you. I'm not that patient, so I dispel.

 

Well, I'm missin' somethin', cause after I charm him, whether it's dispelled or not, he eventually goes right to red...and stays that way. I have the party AI turned off, so no one's taking shots at him. The only way I've EVER been able to talk to him was using the method in the w/t, and I could only get that to work once.

Very frustrating.

 

@Felinoid: good point. Even my "unmodded" install has an alpha version of the G3 fixpack on it........

 

I charm him, and CTRL+T to spend 1 hour, charm's duration runs out and voila.

 

its 24000 exp if you can charm him if you kill him its like 8000

i have charmed before took me an untold amount of reloads which sucked coz i was on multiplayer having to click every char is a major time drainer

 

I always kill him. The Keep is one of the first places I go to, and I like the full plate mail armor he has. The full plate is more valuable to me than 13,000 more XPs.

 

I also like the full plate. Very nice early in the game.

 

I tried the first time I went to the keep and failed to charm, despite several reloads and attempts, so therafter I always killed him and used the spiffy full plate.

 

I have to confess I really liked the full plate mail first time I played the game.

 

That reminds me...on the trial encounter I tried yesterday, I found a set of full plate in one of the chests on the first floor. I'm damn near positive it's never been there before. Was this included in the UB fix, so that you can uncharm Glacias and STILL get the armor? If so, cool. If not, I'm probably hallucinating.

Seems like I'm the only one who's never able to uncharm the guy easily.

 

No, Gregor, I can never uncharm him... I don't even bother. Hold Person works to stop him from slashing my people to tiny bits and is quicker than charming/dispelling.

 

The bug with Glacias isn't the charm. If he enters a charmed state, the game forces a dispel magic on him so he can go to a neutral state and deliver dialogue. Unfortunately, the game casts a regular dispel from an area script--meaning it's cast at an exceptionally low level and has little chance of dispelling his charm.

This is addressed by the Fixpack (and Unfinished Business as well, IIRC) by changing it to a version of Dispel Magic that always works.

 

Silverstar's method of Doom, Greater Malaison and Charm Person worked for me just now. I used Hold Person, too, to make sure he stood still. Luckily, I found a scroll as part of the random treasures because the nymph cloak and RoHI did not charm Glaicus.

Once charmed, I got Dispel Effects on the message screen, but nothing happened (like CamDawg said). Keldorn's Dispel Magic does work (like it wouldn't? ).
