Blasphemy! How dare you imply a politician may tell a direct truth.

Not at all. The true idiot is the reporter who would ask such a stupid question.

    @Chandos

I admit, I don't understand your response. To me it was always obvious he was hiding. When the President answered the question with the only answer possible, why does that reflect poorly on him?

After reading Hack's response to me it seems like he had the same opinion. How would getting out more really help the obvious?

I agree that GWB won't invade any other country. While he cannot ever admit to this, I think deep down, GWB believes that Iraq was a mistake. I really do. I don't think he thought it would be a mistake when he first invaded Iraq, nor during the first few months of the invasion. But I doubt he had any clue that now, nearly two years later, we would still be fighting a resistance in Iraq, that we would still need 150,000 troops over there, and that Iraq would be no safer (and likely even less safe) now than it was before we invaded. To me it is an example of "It sounded like a good idea at the time." I believe that Bush did not have any idea that the level of commitment required ini the form of troops, equipment, and money, was anywhere near as much as it turned out to be. I think if he knew this is where we'd be, two years later, that he would have decided otherwise.

Naturally, he can't ever admit this - it was the biggest decision of his first term as president - and it would make him a flip-flopper.

GWB was under intense pressure from his "advisors" and they probably laid forth the "evidence" discredited around the world as fact to him. Who is a president supposed to trust? His chosen advisors or foreigners? Of course he trusted his advisors, add to this the fact that Saddam was an enemy of the family I do not think he was that hard to convince. I do not think he thinks it is mistake though, he is a religious man and in his opinion he is fighting evil and he is goodness and good fighting evil can never be wrong for such a person.

While doing a google search for NWN related stuff, I came across this site and this post.

I am appalled by the posts here in this thread. The American mainstream press does not like Bush and the foreign press absolutely hates Bush. Some people can’t handle a person who does what he says and says what he does. Here is another example of taken a quote out of context and twisting it for sole purpose of making Bush look bad.

I am damn proud to have voted for (twice) and to call GWB my President. To imply that he or anyone pulled the wool over my or anyone else’s eyes to vote for GWB is insulting. And Morgoth owes all Americans an apology for calling us stupid.

For those who have short memories, 9/11 changed everything. America has enemies who mean to do her harm, and GWB is taking the fight to the terrorist. If that mean attacking other terrorist backing country to protect America and its interests, I am 100% behind my Commander and Chief. Sometimes doing the right thing is not popular.

This is my first and last post here in these anti-American forums.

This is the root of the major political problem: one of expectations versus what we get. One can expect an informed, educated reponse from someone with whom the American people have voted into the most powerful position in the world. The position of prez affects not only policy here, but in many other places on the globe as well.

Every person who has a TV knows that Bin Laden is "hiding". As someone who is concerned about the reality of an attack from this guy, of course I expect to hear if there is progress in the hunt for this very dangerous person. We heard boatloads of information (misinformation may be a better term here) on Saddam, before, during and after the Iraq War. Yet, there is no information on Bin Laden.

The undisputable fact remains that Shrub has failed on this issue, utterly and dismally and the fact that you are willing to accept this for an answer, proves that your expectations are indeed at rock bottom for the man who is supposed to be protecting the American people.

I actually believed that Shrub would have this guy by the election in November. As much as I believe that George II is an incompetent hack, I still had enough confidence that over a period of years he may be able to accomplish one thing worthwhile - to bring Bin Laden to justice. I am still holding out a small hope that he may accomplish this given that he has four more years - maybe.

One thing I would expect, once called on for job performance, would be a progress report. Since some of this operation is covert the details would not be made readily available, but general information should be forthcoming. I want to know what kind of progress is being made on this issue - American lives may depend on it.

Any moron can say Bin Laden is hiding. And if you are fine with that, then great for you. Personally, I expect more from someone who is the self-proclaimed leader of the free world. He says he's a leader and it's time he started really being one, rather than just "acting" the part. He can start by speaking to the American People in a manner befitting his high-office.

Some of us are not just impying it, but making an assertive accusation that he has been neither honest, nor competent in his dealings with the American people. Welcome to the Alley, JP.

[IMG] JP Lewis obviously didn't bother to read the AoDA rules when he signed up, typical... but he's right about Morgoth, I forgot to sanction that post when I was writing mine, sorry about that.

And I can echo this part of his post:

And letting Bush get off easy would definitely be the wrong thing here, as far as I'm concerned. It would certainly be more popular with most of our American visitors, but I'll be damned if I'm going to make AoDA, where everyone can present their side of the story, into a Bush support group.

Unfortunately, the majority of arguments in favour of Bush posted in this forum end like JP Lewis's - with namecalling, or rather, implying treason - that anyone who doesn't support Bush without question is ANTI-AMERICAN (ooh, the ugly word). Good thing that all the Americans posting here who don't support Bush and share my view of him know that they are ANTI-THEMSELVES. See how fast you can bring those anti-Americanism accusations to the point of absurd? Hence the special set of rules for AoDA, pinned in the sticky. Too bad some people consider themselves above the rules of the places they come barging in to.

Ah, now I get it. When the reporter asked the President where OBL was you expected the President to summon Rice to give a full briefing on the issue with satellite images and all of the intelligence that the CIA has. Hopefully, nobody will ask him where the sun is. I can see it now, he would spin around until he located it and then he would point at it. Internationally this would be a disaster, the Anti-Bush crowd would scream about the lack of science education. :D

As to JP Lewis, I miss him already. Talk about a breath of fresh air.

Maybe the reporter was the dumb one? If everyone knows, why ask?

And I've never ended an discussion by calling everyone here Anti-American. It would be an insult to America to call you people anything "American".

    OK, that was a joke.

Well, TGS, you have my ranting instead - isn't that comforting? But I'm sure I can come up with all the senseless platitudes and can "grandstand" just as much as the next guy, if it will make you feel better. How about this: "As a true American, I pledge to stand by my country, my flag and my president, so help me God! And, as a loyal patriot, I am proud to have such a great man as my president." How's that? Now, just let me know when we get one.

No, why add only more incompetence?

Since this topic is 'Bush discovers that words have meaning(s) I'm going to ask this here.

Did any one hear or read Bush's inaugral speech? If he lives up to 1/2 of what he said that would be great. I thought it a very good speech.

No, I'm not a Bush supporter. But I do think Bush has become the man we love to hate except of course for those who love him.

IMO Bush did not get elected because the majority of voters in the USA thought he did a great job but because he was the lesser of two evils. Kerry was just too liberal.

That's Commander *in* Chief and who has told you it's the right thing or that Saddam had anything to do with 9/11 or that he started that war?

And no, Americans aren't stupid for voting Dubya. The first time they didn't know him and had had enough of Clinton's clique, the second time they had Kerry as the alternative. I don't envy that choice.

I read it - didn't see it live. However I don't think it was particularly good. It was a typical GWB canned freedom speech.

    Freedom is good.
    Freedom is right.
    We are free.
    Therefore we are good.
    Therefore we are right.
Anyone who is not free is obviously evil and wrong.

Blahblahblahblahblah. We've heard it all before.

Aldeth, you cynic. You mean you didn't believe him or you read between the lines? Of course I believed every word he said. (I have a bridge for sale, too)

The speech was very well and carefully written. I applaud who ever wrote it.

If you're speaking strictly from a grammatical and organizational form, then I agree. Which considering his public speaking skills of four years ago, means we really have come a long way.
