    In 2e, animal companions were just that, animal companions. They would follow you around, fight with you, etc. None of them were so small or useless as a hamster, though (unless you count the traditional 00 for DM's choice). Something as insignificant in combat as a hamster seems much more like a familiar.

    Well, witches (warlocks) are a wizard kit, and actually have something of a different familiar list. Black cats, toads, etc. Honestly, Boo seems much more of a pet, though if you believe what Minsc says about Boo talking to him, that really could just be a familiar's empathic link. ;) (Ranger animal companions have no such link, or really any way of communicating past actions.)

    Several of his banters talk about nature (he'd sooner tear out his eyes than kill animals, etc.). Jaheira (I think) calls him on some of his oddities with regard to nature, so the game does make an attempt to explain them. Personally, I think he's more "rangery" than Valygar (who has the personality of a wizard slayer).

    I reckon that Boo is certainly, at best, a pet, and at worst, some sort of prisoner of Minsc's robes.

    But where does that mod fit in which gives Minsc the power to give birth to additional, controllable, Boos?

    I do agree with Bombur.
    I always felt that way, although Valygar is a scout as well so the Stalker thing makes sense... His hatred for wizards is more of a background thing rather than some special ability, Valygar couldn't have trained as a Wizard Slayer AFAICT.

    Minsc wears robes? :aaa:
    That would confirm that Boo is his familiar... BURN the WITCH!!! :mad:
