Yeah, the patches were good. Especially the one in which you could cycle trough the important dungeoun areas and not waiste half of your life trying to beat the game.

I always find it strange to hear complaints about Ultima IX being a seriously bugged game. Never patched it, and running a system that just meets the requirements on the box (usually a sign to say probably unplayable), and aside from a couple of relatively minor bugs, didn't notice anything. Probably the nearest to a bug free game I've played. Unfortunately it wasn't any good. But hey, you can't have everything.

Also played Daggerfall, bugs certainly more noticeable, and only one thing that ever prevented completing a quest. When the quest location in a dungeon is underneath a trapdoor that never seems to open (although I'm positive I once did it). The odd getting stuck, but never that often. Never anything to stop it being fun. And as to the person mentioning the corrupted save games, can't say I recall it myself, but when gaming as a matter of course I always save regularly, and cycle through a number of saves, so I rarely have to back up too far.

Biggest problem in my view, and this really applies to a large number of them, is their failure to run when not installed in the default directory. I have two drives, my C: drive being the smaller of the two - as a result I like to stick games outside this. A problem with the drive can be discouted, as enough games will quite happily work there (including the aforementioned UIX). Worst offeneder for doing this has been Black Isle. None of them have ever worked on it, and given relatively large installs, this is an annoyance.
