Alright...So I bought a snazzy new laptop, and I splurged on a Blu-Ray reader/DVD burner drive so I can start watching some of my Blu-Ray movies. Problem is, Dell didn't ship any Blu-Ray playback software for the drive. I looked around, and I can't find any free players out there. There's WinDVD 10 that apparently plays Blu-Ray...but it costs $65.

Anyone know of any free (or cheaper) Blu-Ray playback software?

That's insane. They sell drives that don't come with the software needed to use them? I'm glad you posted this as I was thinking about buying a drive for my PC, now if I do that I'm going to have to make sure there is software included.

[IMG] Don't suppose you've tried the manufacturer? You know what Dell are like with preinstalling everything except what you need. It's so you don't waste time logging on straight away and using the laptop for its intended purpose.

There are not really any free Blu-ray playback software thanks to the DRM it uses. If you have Linux it is possible to watch them with certain limitations. This is an useful article about the current situation, even if you are not going to watch them on Linux. There are some software for Windows which you can try to use as well. Like MakeMKV mentioned in the article above. But the drives should come with the necessary software bundled. So calling the manufacturer is probably the best option.
