Advice about Imoen’s spells

    Advice about Imoen?s spells

    Just begin ToB section and I am looking for advice on to what spells to memorize for imoen. Immy already have many spells learn. My party consists of PC (F/M), Minsc, Jaheira, Keldorn, Immy (LV. 7/22) and a self-created Cleric ;) .

    I was thinking more of a support role for her but any advice is welcome; also, this is the levels available for her:

    Level 1= 5
    Level 2= 7
    Level 3= 6
    Level 4= 6
    Level 5= 6
    Level 6= 7
    Level 7= 5
    Level 8= 4
    Level 9= 3

    What I usually have her spellbook:

    Lvl 1 - Chromatic Orb, 4 MM

    Lvl 2 - Mirror Image, Blur, Resist Fear, 3 Melf's, Invis. 10'

    Lvl 3 - 2 Fireball, 2 Flame Arrow, Slow, Haste

    Lvl 4 - Minor Spell Sequencer, Stoneskin, Minor Globe, 2 Ice Storm, Gr. Malison

    Lvl 5 - 2 Cloudkill, 2 Breech, 2 Lower Resist

    Lvl 6 - Contigency (Stoneskin @ 50% HP), 2 True Sight, 2 Protect from Magical Energy, 2 Chain Lightning

    Lvl 7 - Limited Wish, Spell Sequencer, 2 Mordy's Sword, Khelban's Whip

    Lvl 8 - 3 ADHW, Spell Trigger

    Lvl 9 - 2 Comet, Time Stop

    Some of these spells can be revamped since you have a supportive mage who can cast some spells - such as Haste of Invis. 10'. Imoen is usually for me the bombardier. With the sequencers, you can add even more spells.

    Level 1
    3 MMs, Shield, Spook.

    *Spook has -6 penalty to save. MM is good enough for damage, Shield gives you some AC.

    Level 2
    3 Mirror Image, Resist fear (dunno if you have a cleric), Web, 2 Horror.

    Lvel 3
    2 Skull Trap, 2 flame arrow, Slow, Haste

    *Skull Trap has awesome damage potential. Flame Arrow is for single targets. Slow is POTENT!

    Level 4
    2 Stoneskin, Spirit Armor, 2 Greater malison, Secret word.

    *Immy should always have one active Stoneskin and two for reserve. Cast Stoneskin BEFORE resting, it lasts long enough.

    Spirit Armor gives hefty AC boost and a +3 bonus to most important saving throw. Your Project Images can cast this as needed.

    Secret Word is VERY powerful for its level. Use GM A LOT! It makes every spell more powerful.

    Level 5
    2 breach, 2 lover resistance, Animate Dead, Sunfire. (use cloudkill wands if needed)

    *Animate Dead is an useful summon against Mages.

    Level 6
    2 Pierce magic, Death, Imp.haste, Tenser's Transform, 2 Prot.from Magic weapons.

    *Keldorn SHOULD get True Sight instead, and Chain Light. is next to useless. With a save vs spell, 5d6 damage. Pure crap. Prot. from magic weapons is VERY valuable though, makes you stand unhurt.
    Death spell is invaluable against annoying summons.

    Level 7
    Finger of Death (use after GM and dooming), Mordy sword, 2 Project Image. (seriously, this spell is ultra-powerful!) , Khelben's whip.

    *Use Project Images to summon a lot of creatures, buff them, go berserk with Wiltings! Even use those valuable scrolls!

    Level 8
    3 Abi Dalzims, 1 Pierce Shield.
    *You can NEVER have enough ADHWs.

    Level 9
    -If she wears Robe of Vecna:
    Time Stop, Imp. Alacrity, Summon Planetar.

    -If she does not:
    Summon Planetar, Dragon Breath, Imprisonment.

    *Summon Planetar is awesome, you can summon MULTIPLE planetars with Project Image! DB ignores MR, but definitely don't use against Fire Giants or any fire ilk. Imprisonment is nasty.

    *If she has RoV, Time Stop, then IA, then go berserk with all spells. What is best, use Pause when spell casted, this will save time, and have a Project Image empty her spell book!

    ---------------------------------------------------------

    Using sequencers are all good and well, BUT I don't like having them memorised. Cast them beforehand and save till it is needed.

    Minor Spell Sequencer:Two Magic Misiles or Shield+Mirror Image on self.

    Contingency:Stoneskin when %50 HP.

    Spell Sequencer: FShield Blue+Red+Imp. inv. on self or GM, Slow, Horror on enemies. OR 3 skulltraps for 60d6 damage!

    Spell Trigger:Depends on the situation. Against demons, dragons: 2 pierce magics, 1 breach or Lower resist. Summoning: 3 Animate Dead. Offensive: 3 Chain Lightnings, OR Remove Magic, Chain Lightning, Chaos (in that order).

    Chain COntingency:Mirror Image+Pfrom Magic Weapons+ABDHW on self when down to %50 HP.

    OR for nasty battles:
    Stick 3 Project Images, set it to SELF, when HELPLESS. Then once you cast a new PI yourself, Immy will be paralysed, thus helpless, and you will have 4 powerful PIs. Then each can summon one Planetar, Mordy swords, Imp. Haste them, and go berserk with Time Stops, ADHWs. This is the TRUE POWER of spell-casting! :thumb:

    If you play well, Immy should never be in trouble. I usually load her up with the best offensive spells first and leave defense for extra slots.

    Level 1 - 5 MMs
    Level 2 - 6 Melf's, 1 Mirror Image
    Level 3 - 6 Fireball (free damage if done from off-screen w/ stealth :evil: )
    Level 4 - 3 summons, 3 Stoneskins (as soon as you get another slot, I'd shift to 6 summons, 1 Stoneskin, and add Stoneskins from there)
    Level 5 - Cloudkill, Breach, & Lower resistance. How many of each depends on who you'll be facing.
    Level 6 - 6 Death Fogs (same as Fireball and Cloudkill, can also kill summons like Death spell), 1 Pierce Magic
    Level 7 - 3 Project Images, 2 Khelben's Warding Whip
    Level 8 - 3 ADHW, 1 Incendiary Cloud (does more damage over time; stealth)
    Level 9 - Chain Contingency, Shapechange, Time Stop

    Take a tip from enemy mages and have a CC with 3 ADHW's in it just before you meet somebody big. The four spells are in there for re-memorization. And a PI who casts Shapechange regains the ability to attack; Time Stop->Mind Flayer->Insta-death by stat drain. :evil:

    Interesting. You throw fireballs with stealth?

    I also love Death Fog and Incendiary cloud. Former as it kills liches and mages&disable their casting, latter as it does MASSIVE damage easily.

    Love that Shapechange trick.

    Have 4 PIs as described above, each will cast Stoneskin, Mirror Image, Fshields, Imp. haste, Shapechange, Tenser's trans, THEN shapechange into mindflayers.

    See the brain-sucking fun! 4 buffed to the max, completely expandable Mind Flayer allies! The BEST summoning ever! :jump:
