    You aren't thinking 3D. The other planets orbit in essentially the same plane, but as was mentioned above, Pluto's orbit is inclined to this plane. So, while Pluto's orbit does move inside Neptune's, they don't actually intersect.

    What do you mean comets don't hit anything? Don't you remember the spectacular Shoemaker-Levy impact on Jupiter?

    I vote for Dave. It's a good name for a planet. Otherwise you need to use the name of a major god of the Roman pantheon. Obvious choices are:

    Juno, Minerva, Vesta, Diana, Vulcan and Bacchus.

    All the others have planets named after them (Ceres is the earth, and Apollo could be considered the sun).

    Of the Roman names, I tend to support Bacchus.

    I'm an idiot. No, I didn't remember that until you just mentioned it now.

    OK, your explanation of Neptune/Pluto seems reasonable. I wasn't thinking 3D because I was under the (obviously false) impression that all the planets were on the same plane. So obviously, the points where they are on the same plane is not the same point where the orbits are equidistant from the sun, making collision impossible.

    Given the fact that it was mentioned in the Hitchhiker's guide and D. Adams is no longer with us, I vote for Douglas :)

    If we are keeping in line with the Roman mythology for planets and Greek for moons, though, I'd vote for Minerva. Actually, it would make sense if Mercury (the messenger) was the name given to the 10th planet and now-Mercury was to be Vulcan (on account of the heat in the sun-facing side), but I suppose every astronomer would commit a suicide if that happened, so I'm willing to compromise. Bacchus would be a bit strange, and the only justification might be a really great bacchanalia happening in the naming committee. Well, that's as good a reason as any, actually ;)

    Perhaps it should be named Rupert? wasn't that the name of it in Hitchhiker's? :D
