I saw a rather nebulous reference in one of the guides hosted here that if you have Montaron and Xzar in your party, you can complete a Zhenatrim subquest? I've never heard of such a thing, and I know I've had these two in my party. I take it there is a trigger mechanism somewhere that I must have missed? Help me out here - what do you do to start this subquest?

I believe you are approached by a Zhent agent in the city of BG, but it's been a long time, not sure what happens from there. For some reason I think it was a dead end, just a meeting with dialog, but I could be wrong...

I thought all it amounted to was that the mages on the second story of the Sorcerous Sundries wouldn't auto-trigger a fight if you got to close to them. It's been years though.

Thanks guys, and I knew that part. When I heard "subplot" I assumed that it was more than a single conversation. In fact, unless you didn't go upstairs in the SS (say you didn't notice there were stairs), you wouldn't even run across the encounter.
