Earlier today I hit Chremy for 162 points of damage with one backstab using my Fighter/Thief wielding Celestial Fury.
    My guy =
    Elven Fighter/Thief levels 11F & 14T with a strength of 19 (imported from BG1.)

It's the most damage I've ever hit anyone for in one shot and I just wondered

"What's the most NON SPELL related damage you guys have done to an enemy with one shot"?

Also, out of interest. Theoretically what is the maximum damage a similar character can do and with which weapon?

Crushing gauntlets... oh goodie! Yet another thing I missed first time through. I shall double my efforts. Don't worry I'm not going to reclick on this post, I'll see if I can't find those gauntlets sometime. Oh and as for the most damage I did, I don't think I've seen past 60 something, and that was with my monk. But what did it matter, he was so fast and would strick back for more damage before you could blink :D

Does higher prof' increase damage done? My guy had 2 points in katana for the 162.

It's just +1 to dam' and a little increase in weapon speed between ** and ***** so I'm not too sure how much extra damage would have been done in the backstab....5 maybe?

As it goes this is my biggest gripe concerning Multi-Classed fighter characters. Even though my m/c guy is a fighter, he can't specialise past ** in any weapon. Add to that the fact that a MAJOR plus of a fighter type is INCREASED weapon specialization it really seems a bit lame. My two fave weapons are longbows & 2H swords and I use an Elf, in the manual it says - Elves "are VERY SKILLED in the use of the bow and long sword".

Yet an Elven fighter/thief that is supposedly very skilled in certain weapons and is a fighter class anyway can only specialize in weapons up to **. Therefore his fighter class is penalized immediately by losing the prime ability of increased weapon specialization that is a major factor when choosing a fighter in the first place.

I completely fail to understand this flaw and begs the question "if you're going to penalize a m/c character in one class, then why not penalize him/her in the other". The thieving side of his character remains unaffected.

[IMG] 159 with a dual classed berserker/thief (9/17), who was in a berserker rage+backstab+critical hit with the Celestial Fury, in the sewers, under the temple district. He killed Draug Fea with one blast!

[IMG] My dc Assassin/Fighter just scored 184 points of damage on a backstab. :)

Picture is on this - very basic - page: http://www.geocities.com/earlgreyi/bg2.html

She used a a Katana +2 with Grand Mastery in Katana and Single Weapon Style**.
(No strength enhancing items, potions or spells were used.)

She'll be getting the Celestial Fury soon, so hopefully she'll break her record again.
