Fired up the computer this morning to recieve error message 'Your copy of Windows is not genuine. You may be a victim of software counterfeiting'

We've been using the same windows that was installed ever since we got the computer from MESH in November 2004 so it's obviously not fake... the only way we can load Windows is to click 'Solve later'

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Do you have automatic update on?
I bought my computer just about a month ago, and of course, it came with its Windows installed and with a sticker telling me that the software is original and with its serial number. After looking for some drivers in the Update website, I got that message.
It seems that there's no fix for this, yet. I fixed that by reformating the disk, and installing again, but this time, I won't install those check stuff from Micro$oft.

Check here. There's seems to be a solution there.

Microsoft just bullying you again. That (linked) topic pretty much solves the problem.

Generally it looks like cracked windows works better than original, off-the-shelf.

Look, it is very well possible that you ARE using a counterfeit version of Windows, that it came with the computer from a known shop and that it has a sticker doesn't mean anything.
Another possibility is that your registration key has been illegaly used by others to install and register Windows at their computers.

The trick Sydax linked you to is only going to help you temporarily. Within a few months Microsoft will think of new ways to see if you are running a legal version of Windows, for example by checksumming WgaLogon.dll. And then you will have to search again for a way to evade this.
Best thing you can do now is to call Microsoft support and see if it can be helped, or call MESH and yell at them for giving you a illegal version of Windows.
