    [IMG] Hello all:

What are your opinions about using Yoshimo vs Jan for their Thieving Skills? (When Imoen returns they will be "booted".)

    Thanks

Either will do from a thieving point of view as the thief skills that are required in the game are actually quite minimal. If you plan to use traps a lot Yoshimo is great (at lower levels bounty hunters are the Kings of Cheese in my opinion), otherwise Jan's magic makes him the more useful character in my opinion.

Personally, I like to have Yoshimo along due to his unique involvement in certain plot elements but he is certainly not essential.

Another thing to consider is the "can I tolerate hearing yet another long winded turnip story" factor. Jan can be amusing to have along but many people find him annoying.

    Here's a vote for Jan.

He's better with locks, traps, and pick-pocketing.

His magic adds another element to the party, and I find his bruiser-mates quite useful.

Just remember to ditch Jan when you end chapter 3. Yoshi is good for the storyline after this point.

    Second vote for Jan.

He is very useful with great thieving skills, his BruiserMates are good weapons, has a good spellbook already when you get him (Heck if you want you can save all those scrolls for Imoen to learn from).

Yoshimo, only if you believe in traps and backstabs. If you are gonna take Imoen then take him just before leaving Chapter 3, so you always have a full party.

Yoshimo rocks! Good scout, good opening doors, removing traps and his snare ability...Well, it's even Dragon-proof! On the other hand, Jan has better thieving skills and magic abilities. Works great with an evil party. If you could just make him shut up...

[IMG] Use Jan, Yoshimo will just eat up exp points until he turns on you anyways. Jan is more verstile since he can do about everything with his magic inventions or ther aids as well as Yoshimo. Jan also gets the benefit as a secondary spell caster. Also Yoshimo always joins the party with about 160,000 exp points , about 210,000 after you leave irenicus lair. If you can do some quests without a thief for a while and pick up Jan latter on you may get him with 400 exp or more in combined exp points

He already said he's booting either one when he gets Imoen, so either one would be "eating up experience points."

It depends on if you have another mage in your party. If you don't, then take Jan. If you do not then take Yoshimo. I like the story with Yoshimo anyway.

Yoshimo is by far superior, for the story alone. But looking at it from a powergamers viewpoint, Yoshimo is still far superior. Cutting out his heart is always good for your level.

I would have to say Jan as most of his thieving skills are better when he has his techno gear on and he has access to magic and magical items etc.
