Hmmm, well that's always up to your style of play I suppose. In BG1 I had him strictly as a Fighter. Up front, toe to toe with my main character.

Also of course a Ranger is a type of Fighter.

In my first pass through BG2 I had him as a Fighter for a few levels then a +3 Axe Thrower the rest of the game. In my second (current) time in BG2 I have him as a Ranger. He switches between Bows/Crossbows/Throwing Axe and a 'rare' occasion up front with my MONK. I use his stealth with boots of speed (alongside my MONK) to scout out an area and occasionally take out an easy 'kill'. Of course with his 'animal companion' Boo, he'll always be a Ranger no matter what!

He'd be a much better fighter with ***** in Two-Handed Sword proficiency than he is as a Ranger currently. As Rangers can use two weapons in each hand well enough, it's not that big of a deal now that fighters can do the same by simply putting points into that area.

    To me, he's a fighter who thinks he's a ranger. ;)

Kurgan, I would not be surprised if in the Expansion for BG2 or some other release like BG3... that Boo actually has 'more of a role'. Minsc is a Ranger after all and may get to (like Drizzt) animate Boo into the 'giant space hamster' that Minsc (...and ONLY Minsc) believes him to be.

Again, if you need the FIREPOWER up on your front line (percentile STR & Weapon Skills) play him as a FIGHTER otherwise a sharpshooter/scout is in line with his abilities.

I look foward to the next release!
