XP - too easy in SoA, too hard for Ascension?

I play a six man party, and hit the HLAs in the Asylum / Underwater City. I used SK to set back my xp a bit, and went on. Now I'm just out of the Underdark, and I hit the HLAs again. I set back my XP to ~2,7, since I know from experience that SoA gets way to (ch)easy with HLAs (Irenicus sure fell to them Spike Traps). Though I caught myself thinking about Ascension. Haven't played it before, though I installed it this time. Since it makes ToB alot tougher, from what I've heard, so mayby I should allow myself to reach a high level before I finish SoA? Also, I ought to get 250,000 xp/person from the last two chapters, no?

 

Do you have any mods installed for SoA as well? Tactics and the like? If not, why did you only get Ascension? If you have Ascension's all parts, Illisera and her goons will rip your party apart quickly if you don'T have any HLAs. I am serious!

Yes but her other goons are pretty tough too, teleporting fighter, crazy mage, mad cleric, and brute Neo-Orog. They are one big happy family!

 

Is Illisera the first Bhaal-spawn you encounter in ToB? At the trials at the beginning, so to speak?

I installed Ascension, since I've played through ToB a few times, and wanted to try something new. Heard alot of good stuff about it, so why not? I have UB, Kelsey and some minor mods. Should I go with my original XP ?

 

^Yes Illisera is the very first battle of the ToB, and is hard with Ascension, practically IMPOSSIBLE with a new created single character.

You may go, BUT I seriously reccomend you to have at least one HLA. Illisera is tough, has many resistances, uses her bow deadly and his shots do nasty effects. No more info, no spoilers, try yourself and see be-dazzled!

It only gets better though! Imp. YagaShura will make your head spin, but I know his ONLY weakness, but won't tell you, don't worry.

Imp. Abazigal. Ever dreamed of fighting TWO dragons and their critter at the same time? You will enjoy it then.

Get Oversight mod's Improved Sendai. All ToB enemies are improved via Asc. with the exception of Sendai. No more exception! get her improved version, play on insane and cry infront of the screen!

Ascension final battle will prove to be FUN on insane difficulty. I, myself, avoided it on insane for the first time around. I 'WAS' scared.

 

I guess I can always uninstall it. Perhaps go with both Tactics and Ascension the next time?

 

Yes it will be 'balanced' as you will have much more XP thanks to Tactics+Imp. battles combo and thus be 'ready' for the challenges of Ascension.

BUT do not uninstall without trying! Prove me wrong and beat them all on insane! Why not?

Just re-give your actual original XP back, if you feel it is hard. And give us feed-back OK, I am curious.

 

I too suggest taking both or neither (preferably the former, of course). As for Improved Yaga-Shura, his weakness is very intuitive...
