Wis Upgrades.

    [​IMG] I'm going to start my second run-through soon. I was thinking of using a fighter but I think I'll be using a mage again. Anyway, the last time I put every stat point I had at level up into Wis until I had a 25 wis then I remember missing out on at least 4 free wis points that were granted during conversations. Could somebody list the conversations when you get a wis bonus please so i can make allowances this time.

    O from Smoldering Corpse gives you +1 WIS. See him when you come right out of the Mortuary.

    Sarossa the seer at the Godsmen's gives you +1 if you choose the "good" dialogue choices.

    Ravel gives you +2-3 WIS if you flatter her.

    12th level magic users get +1 WIS from the specialization bonus if they don't dual-class before then.

    Also, your incarnations give you bonus WIS if you merge with them...but that's too late in the game.

    I think that's it.

    The build I'm going with is seeming kind of odd to me, but its the same general idea... I started out with maximum Dex and Con, and the rest in Strength, and intend on boosting my Intelligence and Wisdom as I go; as soon as I get Wizard, I know I'll get bonuses there, which at least won't be wasted, as they were when I was playing as a twinked-out wizard specialist (and now I've got a drekload more HP and a better AC to start).

    Simpson's walkthrough lists all stat bonuses throughout the game and can be found here.

    I found starting with an 18 wisdom is usually enough (I had 25 by the end of the game without using any adds during level up).

    you can dual class and get the 12th level wizard specialization bonus; all you need is to 1) take your first 7th level as a wizard and 2) take your first 12th level as a wizard.

    Also remember tattoos: Tattoo of the Soul and Tattoo of the Redeemer both give you +2 Wis. So I tend to stop adding level up points at a natural Wis of 17 (19 w/ tattoo), and then just take the additional points from quests/memories, etc.

    Chev - the higher the wisdom the better experience bonus your TNO character gets on top of his share of the party's experience. Also, high wisdom allows for certain conversation options and possiblities that an ordinary guy just won't get. You can and should sacrifice physical attributes for mental ones in this game, as the best part of it is the conversations. I almost always max out wisdom, intelligence and charisma before I turn to the physical stats in this game.

    They did some of that in later games, actually; if you use the conversation explorers, you'll see that they have conditions based on your alignment, class, skill ranks (in the case of IWD2), race, and statistics.

    Agreed on one side, on teh other not :)

    Agreed that its great that the "mental" abilities rules in this game. not so great that you should get XP bonus from wisdom, that would ahve made so many things so amasinglly dumb heh :p thankfully nameless one only gets this, becose hes such a messed up person. but yeah, i tend to pick alot of wisdom, and a fair amount of con, int and cha.

    Frankly, I find it a bit unbalanced, since the system favors magic users (who will have high INT and can skew their CHA using Friends). Makes fighters very dull to play in comparison, although thieves can be pretty interesting.

    15 wis for starters, 1 from O, and 1 from levels or tattoos. When you reach the end of the game, you only need to read the Bronze Sphere and increase it to 23 so you can merge with the practical incarnation. Other than that, 17-18 is enough. The battles aren't that difficult for you to mind missing a few levels.

    By the way, like with Baldur's Gate 1; fighter is the best class to go with.

    Whire: No, mage is be best class. A mage has decent fighting skills, and combined with his awesome spells, he clearly outmatches fighter and thief. Mage also goes hand-in-hand with high Int and wisdom, and with a mage you get more experience and you can improve Dak'kon alot.


    Well, thats why Ps:T is the best of them. (Although I havent played Pool of Radiance yet, but I obtained it yesterday)

    Killjoy: D&D has always favored magic users at high levels; in fact, for a while, that was their claim to being a balanced game... a wizard stunk at low levels, and killed at the high end.

    Actually i agree that fighter is way overpowered in PST. seriouslly just try play a buffed up fighter (upgrade Str, con, wis) and see how FAST that character can beat up anything in the game with no problems, and become level 20 masinglly fast. last time i played solo fighter i hit level 20 within 24 hours playing, and before leaving sigil itself.

    A good buffed fighter will do more dmg on a shorter time than a wizard can do with all but hes greatest highlevel mass area damage spells. and he has a limit to those :)

    I droped playig that character after hitting level 20 for two reasons, One since had upgraded everything else first i had forgotten INT, so it was at int9, and as such i was to "dumb" to continue the quest to get to ravels maze >_<, and Secondly, it was VERY boring, way to easy.

    I prefer palying thief or wizard, actually some challenges.

    TNO can start the game with base str and con (just 13-14 dex so you can snap people's necks), buffed up Wısdom (probably start with 18, but don't put any points after that), Int and Cha and solo through the game as a fighter, possibly never missing out on extra dialogue options, optional thingies and extra rewards. You can even momentarily put certain NPCs into your party (to get storyline things you need) and leave them once you get what you need.

    The strongest class probably depends on play style and the situation you are dealing with. Of course mage will wipe out the Curst prison (especially if he has that Eva's Duplication thingy and any area of effect spell) but a well built fighter can solo the glabrezu in the "curst gone" area.

    Finally, I don't think str and con make a strong fighter. IMO, the only thing that matters is AC, and you do not need tons of dex to improve your AC (there are lots of +# AC thingies). Ofc high str helps (in terms of damage, since you can't actually get your THAC0 below 1), but I don't think con helps that much (except at the high end 23-25 area, when you start regenerating so fast you can just heal after a combat by letting the game running and going to the kitchen for a quick snack).

    By the way, has anyone gotten the bonus supposedly given by Ives (?) at the brothel? I've told her every story I had and asked all NPCs, but I still can't get the bonus she's suppsed to give.
