Heart of Fury just really doesn't make any sense to me... How the heck can some little goblin lay the smack down on half of my party before falling. Personally I envision goblins as merely Gremlins (yes, from the movie) with weapons. Something your mother could take out with a frying pan (if they were unarmed. Note that the characters in a party are adventurers, mercenaries, etc. not your mother (I hope). If I remember correctly reading a D&D Monster manual as saying "Goblins are merely a nuisance, unless there populations are left unchecked".

No I understand that Heart of Fury was to make the game more challanging and rewarding but I really expected more monsters, and harder ones earlier in the game. I did't expect them to boost their stats to unrealistic bounds.

Anyways I am just venting, I really couldn't stand to play HOF all the way through so does anyone know what I would be missing out on by not playing it (items, weapons, exp) besides the challange.

That's what Heart Of Fury is - boosting the creatures to ridiculous proportions. A claim to anything other than that has never been made.

Although this is all fantasy....it just doesn't seem realistic enough to me, within the fantasy world. (A goblin kickin' the crap out of finely honed mercenaries)

I am not denying the claim, i just think it sucks.

What doesn't make sense to me is, if you do get your mercenaries finely honed, how does goblin kickin' the crap out of you?

    Let me clarify myself.

It all depends on how far you define "finely honed",

Sure if *you* consider finely honed level 20+ then yes, perhaps you wouldn't get whupped.

But,I would like to reaccess what I said, I should say fighter, instead of mercenary, and I am referring to direct physical combat, not summoning helpers(undead, monsters)to do the dirty work since they are boosted to all hell as well.

    Dude.

HoF is not for the feint of heart. It's not for the "new" guys, either.

Unless it's one new guy, and your other 5 are level 30's.

HoF is wicked. Yeah, there's no "minimum level" to get into it. You can start with level 1's.

But then, when you're out in the middle of the ocean, there's no sign on the railing that says, "Warning! Don't jump in at night because you stand a really good chance of being left out there to die!".

In real life, we call this "Natural Selection". Police your own; feed your children first kinda stuff.

Play the normal level for chapter 1, then import. Or, just give all your people level 10 or 12 using Dale Keeper. Figure, 100,000 experience.

How can you possibly complain about the greatness of HOF????? Its brilliant. With the correct tactics and party.

If you have a spell caster, get a sorcerer. Make sure you get as many summon spells as possible. Remember, they are as strong as the enemy....

The difficulty of the monsters depends on you collective mean level. So if all your party memebers are level 12, then the enemy will be a difficulty equivelant of level 12. If one of your characters in level 30, and the rest level 1, then your mean will be level 6, and thus, easier monsters.

Level squat with your sorcerer. level him up, but leave the rest on level 1. then, hit them all up at once. The levels shall rocket.

    Cheers.

What is to say goblins are measily little buggers. You don't really get much of a story of what is behind these bastards, where there tribe hails from, or what gods they worship. Maybe they are all demi-gods or have been granted a boon by the goblin demi-god of war. I mean, your cleric is getting level 9 spells from THEIR god, are you so arrogant as to think goblins don't have deities also? And what about Orcs? Man, Elder Gruum****es could wail on a lower level party.

Just like you can take a wimpy little commoner, arm him with a blade a suit of metal plates and expect him to becoming a wonderous figure of power out of nowhere, little goblins can pick up a Spear of Fury, be granted a boon by their god, and lay a siege to the Ten Towns.

[IMG] I played HoF through Targos and i hated it. Why?
1st of all it's not logical,my level 15+ characters dying in the hands of tupid goblins...
2nd it's all about mages,i have one and a half( multied with rogue)
    3rd monsters are raping me
4th monsters are too powerful(gonna repeat this till my fury is gone)
    5th Monsters are hella powerful
I wonder how the Lost Followers or Beastmaster will be.
But to tell the truth,HoF increases my adrenaline and it's much more challenging.Like Diablo in Hell.
I don't want to die earlier so i stopped playing HoF.But i think there are many people who enjoys it...

I knew what to expect from HOF because I played it in IWD1. I like getting 24000xp for 1 Maralite High Priest. That's why I like HOF. Guthma gave me about 75000xp. Don't remember the exact figure because I was intoxicated with the "small amounts of xp" I was receiving...

yes, you thought that level 15 is a high level. For a level 15 fighter, goblin shouldn't be a problem? What exactly does level 15 means?

Any goblin can kick the crap out of any new guy in town. And when you started HoF, you are suppose to be a new guy. Level 15 is what? You cannot go around and say that 'hey, i am level 15, i am not suppose to be bully by goblins.'

[IMG] I Like the comparison of HoF to Hell mode on Diablo.

The idea is to give high levels a place to go have fun. If you have a party of 6 all around level 25+ It takes a bloody long time to level up.. but it doesn't take nearly as long with the right setting.. IE: HoF. This isn't just a place for level gaining either. The weapons and armor in normal mode are Weak.. Specially once you get a Taste for HoF weapons.. Granted, i generally play a 1-2 player game, but i can still have my fun.. ^_^
