Wagner James Au at Kotaku has found the cause of the problems in the games industry or so he thinks. No spoilers, just an excerpt from the beginning:

Why do games, for the most part, unrelentingly suck such ass? If you happened to hear veteran designer Greg Costikyan’s acclaimed rant last GDC 2005, you’d think the trouble was due to the rising cost of development, and outdated distribution models. He is right as far as it goes— but right in a way that doesn’t leave much hope for change.

and no one realize that before?

Magazines get their income chiefly through advertisment. How can one publish the ad for one product in a page and criticize it on the other?

i would say this is just someone who band into walls in his job and turn around and rant about it. No, i don't believe in independent journalism unless it is non profitable. Journalism is a power tool often control by government (the power) or the wealth.

i wouldn't say this is a problem in gaming industry. Take for example, car industry, they pretty much do the same, every new car = every new praise. And we still get new car every now and then, no problem with that.
