Why Druids?

I broached this question earlier, but didn't get the kind of answer I was looking for. So, I'll re-word the question. By the time you get to the end of ToB, what possible good is the ability to shapeshift into a wolf or bear? In fact, by the time you get to around level 13 or so, given appropriate and probable weaponry, the skill is useless, wasted. This doesn't happen to other classes with their abilities.

 

By the end of ToB you can shapeshift into Earth or Fire Elemental,can call Greater Elemental Princes do many attractions that a cleric can't do.But still can't raise the dead(except for Jaheira who has Harper's Call).A high level ability is mass raise dead and it raises all party members and heals them a bit.But until you get here you may want to raise dead a little.

 

I hear you, Khelben, and I agree that the later skills make the Druid worth taking. I guess that my point is that right up until the end of the game, a thief's ability to hide, sneak, open locks, and all the rest is useful. His abilities do not become irrelevant. Those three animal abilities, in my mind, DO become irrelevant. If I ever play a Druid main character, he'll be totemic.

 

Oh,i think shapeshifter is powerful,never tried totemic but it's abilites seems better than normal druid's.At least they don't become irrevelant.

 

Please do yourself a favour and try Shapeshifter instead of Totemic druid.

I did and i'm VERY happy with it.
Sure you wont have than many shapeshifts but you already know how useless they are later. I'm level 26 ToB and i still use my Greater Werewolv ability to form a third fighter in my group. But make sure you download a mod called something like "Shapeshifter Rebalanced". It restores the original benefits you gain in PnP. The way it should be. They added s little bonus though,... You can still cast spells while shapeshifted. That is screwed up but you dont have to use it if you dont want to.

Really try Shapeshifter. As good spellcaster as any druid can ever hope to be + great fighter if he wants to. It beats Korgan while buffed

As for lack of Ressurection spell. I have to say i didnt have a cleric in my party and i did just fine without it. I just had a VERY nice rod called Rod of Ressurection. Has 10 charges which suffice throught any dungeon. And then just sell it and re-buy it.

I hear you, Gothmog -- I LOVE having Cernd along for the ride. I just hate to have a main character with the exact same kit as an NPC. anyone know where I can get the mod Gothmog mentioned?

Its in the package with other rather useful addons. When you open it you just choose the ones you want to install. I suggest grand-mastery as well.
