Okay, what did I do wrong?

I'm in the Kuo-Toa caves and I wake up not a drow anymore..... why?

Did I use up too much time? The Silver Dragon didn't say I was on a clock... that would've been useful info...

or was it because I killed drow? But I killed several drow in the pits with no consequences...

Later Phaere shows up complaining and the jig is up...

It's possible you went too far. IIRC, the exit to the underdark is located within the Koa Toan dungeon. Did you come up to a little "campsite" looking area with a bunch of skeletons? Do you go farther, into a room where drow and surface elves were fighting? If so, you've gone too close to the surface and your disguise has been dispelled. I did the same thing my first time through, pissing off the silver dragon I might add...and had to backtrack from a previous save. :(

Speaking of which...did we learn our lesson about backup saves from the "Stuck in the Twisted Rune room" thread? :D

Death Rabbit, there's no way he could have gotten into that room you mention past the Kuo Tua lair. YOu either have to have Adalon open that puppy for you, or have taken the dark side (which I have never done), killed Adalon, and then the door opens somehow. Before that point, that door toward the surface is sealed up tight!

Not true. I have gotten through there after the Drow illusion was placed on my party, and before I completed the egg quest (and I certainly didn't kill Adalon). The illusion is broken as soon as you step through the door.

It was completely inadvertent (I didn't know where the door led), so I immediately restored. I'm not sure what circumstances are required to leave, but it was definitely after the illusion was cast.

Yeah LKD, you be dead-ass wrong, sucka! :p Dude I didn't just make it up! :shake:

Me and my need to be thorough and explore every nook of every dungeon led me to stumble upon that little exit (exactly the same as BTA, apparantly). It's still possible to get Adalon's eggs back after this point, because I tried it. You just have to fight your way through the Drow City - which isn't that hard, if you go slowly and fight a few drow at a time. Regardless, I ended up reloading my old save and doing the underdark all over so as not to miss out on all the plot and miniquests involved...but it's no gamekiller to get the illusion dispelled.

No Kidding? Every time I go there, I slaughter the drow standing guard (why not? it's good XP) and then when I try the door, it says it's sealed with magic. Lockpicking doesn't get me out, I'm just stuck there. Anyone have any hints?

Although the Matron Mother never says that you're on a clock, you actually have a limited time between when you're given that quest and when you return to her with the blood. I learned this the hard way when trying to do all three dungeons + the lich quest.

It's time that dispells your illusion. Although, is the Kuo-Toa dungeon the only one you went to since getting the quest from Ardulace? If not, I have a work-around.

Oh, no.... I went to kill Beholders first.... and spent alot of time doing it..... I couldn't find the +4 sling that I needed since I have TWO slingers in the party...

Then I went to sell stuff at the dwarves....

    then I went after kua-toa...

Okay, So I took a holiday.... alright, already!
I didn't KNOW I was on the clock. Normally they tell you that you have X days or XX hours to meet back up...

It happened to me though I was inside Ust Natha. The strange thing is I did exaxtly what they told me:the Matron Mother told me to meet her in 3 days and in 3 days exactly imet her;she told me to meet her in a few hours and so did I. Thus, I attacked a drow before turning into my normal form and soon the whole city was attacking me. I killed them all and I took the eggs from where the drows were keeping them. The bad thing is I did not finish all the quests.

I know, this is not the expected method but I couldn't act otherwise. Anyway, I completed the task and braught the eggs back to Adalon.

[IMG] Killing all the Drow seems to be the easy way out.... trying to run the gauntlet of missions and double switching the eggs - and STILL killing all THREE Beholders, mindflayers, and Kuo-toa BEFORE you kill every Drow - now, THAT's an accomplishment!

But back to MY dilema... how much time do I really have before my "cover" wears off?

And can I avoid killing the Drow in the Kuo-toa area for now? and still make it back to Mother in time?

Where's the vaunted Brain Trust?

I'm curious -- did you happen to speak to the giant fish (an aboleth, I think)? If you did, and you didn't threaten to expose it as a mind reader, it exposed you -- how, I don't know, but it knows you're not Drow and it will reveal your disguise which will turn the city hostile.

[IMG] yes, I was quite hostile to the Big Fish in the tank - and threatening.... but it backed off and I got experience points..... and it was DAYS later that I lost my drow look.

    Curious thing though....

I re-loaded from a previous save and instead of going to the Kuo Toa I went back and finished the Egg adventure... with no problems.... and THEN went to kill Kuo-Toa(and the Drow therein) THEN went to give the dragon the real eggs...

the odd thing.... Once I regained my regular form I learned that when Keldorn equiped his drow crossbow.... HE BECAME A DROW AGAIN!! What's up with that?

The fish did not reveal you, since you did that part of the quest properly (well, you didn't fail its quest).

Hmm, that is strange. Did his appearance change or did he say some dialogue that he is a drow again? I'm wondering if equipping the drow crossbow has an appearance change on it.

Try running up to the surface and see if he's still a drow. Or, unequip the crossbow and see if he returns to normal.

I don't think threatening the Aboleth is the reason...if I'm not mistaken, when he threatens you about disposing of your disguise, you have the choice of disposing his!! So..it must have some reason elsewhere.... so, just relax and reload it!
    Good luck!!

It can't be the time, well not that I know of atleast. When you run out of time the drows just turn hostile, you don't turn back to your normal self. The same happens if that fish exposes you.
The only thing I can think of is that you left the Underdark by going to far into the tunnel, which can be done.

I believe it was because I killed drow in the Kuo=toa caves ....

but I never figured out about Keldorn. It had to be the crossbow, though, because no one else in the party became drow again...

regardless, I just reloaded, changed order, and everything worked out just fine.

Despite my efforts to retain it the drow equipment crumbled anyway...
