Which of these two is a better leader for my party?

    Aasimar Fighter 4/ Paladin X
    Aasimar Fighter 4/ Sorcerer 5/ Paladin X

My initial thoughts are that adding the extra 5 (or 3 or 4) Sorcerer levels to the build makes the character stronger. Spellcasting, better Saving Throws (doesn't matter much with a starting 20 CHA), a little less Hit Points and BAB.

But, then I start thinking that it would be difficult casting spells in armor. I plan on having this character handle the tank duties, and although I plan on concentrating on defensive spells like Mirror Image and Blur, I don't know if I'm actually hurting myself by not just going full-tank.

To avoid Paladin restrictions and XP penalties, I would have to get the character to his final Sorcerer level before picking up the Paladin class.

EDIT: I guess an alternative I could do is just start levelling as a Sorcerer when I reply in HoF mode. I will already have all the Tank I need out of this character, and shouldn't have a problem hitting stuff. I know this would stop me from being able to advance as a Paladin, but will it really matter in HoF (especially with my WIS of 12, I don't think advancing to a high Paladin level will be worthwhile).

As an Aasimar, I will avoid XP penalties if I keep the Fighter and Sorcerer levels within 1 of each other, or I could just forget about XP penalties at that stage of the game.

Go for the one with the sorcerer mix, with a few spells like mirror image and such, he'll be perfect for the front lines!

Shield is a level 1 sorcerer spell that adds +7 armour AC, which is better than anything out there till the Horde Fortress.
Cast it on yourself, switch to a single weapon+shield combo and wade into combat. Heck it even allows your full Dex AC.

SP has a mod which allows Sorcerers as an allowed multiclass for Paladins of Mystra. Get that and make your own Sorcreer[x]/Paladin[y].
Forget the Fighter level. And if you intend to alternate between Sorcerer and Paladin with this mod, make him a Drow
