OK. I am actually in chapter 3 at the moment and I could certainly go forward with the main story and rescue Imoen. However, I know that I wont get back to the city for a long time if I do.

I would like to do many of the side quests, but I would also like Imoen to get as much experience as possible - which means doing all those side quests with her in my party.

Does it make sence to get through to chapter 3 asap, pick up Imoen and THEN come back and do all the quests (Planar sphere, Cult quest, Windspear etc.)?

Or should I do all these quests now or never?

Hmm, I don't like either that you have to do all of the subquests in chapter 2...

I'd say do as much as you feel comfortable with and enough to not have any problems later on in the game.

The problem is the loot from these quests isn't comparable at all to the loot later on nor is the experience.

Also after the Underdark, spellhold, and fish men city, I'm pretty bummed out, and not in the same mood I was in chapter 2, so I didn't feel like doing all of those subquests.

Another problem is, if you do all avalible subquests in chapter 2, you'll probably be so powerful that the rest of the game will be quite easy.

So it's understandably hard to know when to go to spellhold. My suggestion is doing maybe all of the in-city quests or all of the outdoor quests, leaving one section for later.

    Yup! That's a nice one...
But you can also consider to get the things you want to have before you go to spellhold, Sahuagin City and Underdark-Ust'Nahta...
I realy liked to have some spells and some swords, and not all of them were available in Athkatla.
other thing: Don't waste your scrolls on a mage you are going to dumb after saving Imoen. You probably knew that already..;)

heh...i left imoen in the spellhold. and i only did the murder mystery quest, but i am doing pretty bad. i am doing a solo though, so if you dont do the quests now they shouldn't make the coming chapters as hard as they were for me. like the Sahuagin City was extremely hard for me. But you can skip that, if you want to miss out on more quests.

I always do Windspear hills early in the game ( I just love that Firkraag s.o.b.), and Umar hills. you get cool items, though you have to fight 2 dragons. then go into Spellhold, which for me, is the most boring part of the game.

Bah! The dragons weren't so bad. I set all the traps that I had (though I didn't sleep and set more) - which was a lot with me being a thief and Yoshimo there too. Then I juiced everyone up with anti-magic spells etc. I summoned a couple creatures, sent them behind the dragon, put my fighters in front of him and my magic users (Nalia, Me, Aeri, Jaheria) to the side. I attacked with the summoned animals first and struck with lightning bolts all over the place.

The dragon attacks the animals first, by the end of the third round of lightning bolts from all three magic users he was dead.

And don't let people tell you using your traps is cheap. They are there for a reason. But sleeping and using a ton of them IS cheap.

I only use traps if I lead the enemy to them, it doesn't make sense to set a trap right in front of a dragon and expect him to do nothing about it.

[IMG] I always do them when I get them. I just love a clean quests journal and a full completed quests section. The only one I didn't do was the last Paladin one about helping Moreno again after killing the Baron (anyone know how to do it?) and the Twisted Rune.

If you're a cavalier, Firkraag and other subquests ain't that hard in Chapter 2. Plus, like you've mentioned, no one can be in a mood for quests after Underdark.

If you don't think that placing traps around a dragon is cheesy, then you are not being honest with yourself. Just be a powergamer and don't make excuses for it.

On topic: I like to split it up. If you do all of the Chapter 2 quests first, then you will be able to do the rest a lot easier. If you wait until after you return, then the Chapter 2 quests are quite easy. So I do some before and some after.

I really wish you people would READ what I wrote before answering. I said they are only cheating IF you do not lead the enemy to them. That's what traps are all about. TRAPS! Setting them down in plain view of a fire breathing dragon just isn't right. Thankfully, this was fixed in the expansion! :)

Yep - traps are a wonderful tactical tool when used properly. When fighting some nasty guys one a bridge (in <cough> ) I was attacked from front and behind - since I wasn't able to fight everywhere I secured my back using traps (retrapping it for the next wave of course  ). Aaaaah, that reminds me to the old days when I played C&C with a friend and he mass attacked my *open flank* that was protected by a huge minefield ... :D ... what a joy to hear his sinister laughs turning into screams of terror

And I agree - there's nothing wrong with building up a *fortified* ambush position with layered defence: traps as a first line and melee and ranged fighters behind. You still have to lure your enemy into it which isn't as easy as it seems. Traps, skull traps, delayed fireballs, the various symbols and glyphes of warding are all great tools for a tactically smart payer.

    @Fungus

Please take a look at your keyboard. It also has commas, full stops. and a <CR> key that you can use to break up your message.

I would make it much easier to read, coz thats awful.

Content wise, I agree with you though. If you've got the traps, use 'em. A mage uses spells, a fighter uses high thacO and loads of hits/round. Backstab and traps - thats your thief for you.
