[IMG] BESIDES restricted weapons (like the holy avenger)?

I'm trying to build a character that, while he can't do it all, can do quite a bit. This guy will have levels in Barbarian, Fighter, Wizard, and Rogue.

I can't decide if I should also add Ranger into the mix, making him a Two Weapon Fighter.

    So, I need some help...

For pure damage output on normal mode, am I better off using two weapons or a single two handed weapon while fighting? If I choose to specialize with a weapon, which type should I build towards?

There's a short sword that ignores armor. That's a truly awesome weapon for dual weilding. You could look at the list of weapons on game banshee for specific bonuses.

Somehow I am not surprised, that new topic is made by Klorox... :D
I think there is no BEST weapon, some are good against undead, some against trolls. Moonblade of Selune is good, to my mind.
Why such a multi-multi-multiclassed character?? Cast invisibily, sneak attack and go in barbarian rage??

Klorox, don't worry about it. I'd go greataxe. Two handed for 1.5 * Str modifier. 1D12 damage and X3 critical.

For mid game, dual wield the Moonblade and the Mace of Disruption.

Late game, not sure what to do with your build.

Thanks, GG. So you suggest adding the Ranger levels?

Or just add the feats, ambidex and 2weapon fighting. I assume weapon specialization with fighter feats, not sure were you're going with the wizard, but use 1st level rogue and bar feats if you need to. What level assortment you going for?

I say the single two handed weapon because your very toughest opponents have damage reduction so you need at least one person in your party who can do enough damage with ONE HIT to exceed the damage reduction.

[IMG] You want the maximum damage possible?
Good luck finding this weapon. In 6 runs I don't even know where to look for it. A weapon you will find for sale every time in Kuldahar is
Unless using Bastard Swords, you can at best get 1d8 base damage. Also factor in the additional 1.5xStr damage that you get with 2-handed weapons. For pure damage output, nothing beats a 2-handed weapon.

That Massive Halberd of Hate is great! I had a Fighter 4 / Bard x wreak havoc with that oh-so-deadly instrument.

I concur with Harbourboy and Shrikant; number-crunching has proven again and again that the two-handed weapons beat dualwielding every time in damage output, unless you have a low-Strength, high-Dexterity character who would get no damage bonus from the two-handed weapon but could exploit Finesse with two short swords.

But for me, it's worth dealing a li'l less damage because dualwielding is just so much cooler!

There's a halberd or spear with extended reach.

Sherincal's two-handed sword vs humans isn't bad, either.

But for the extended reach the spear Nine Paces (or Twelve Paces in HoF) has nothing special about it.

Sherincal's greatsword is the best weapon against human types for a long time. And it comes to you in great time as well, as you don't fight any humans before the shipcrash.

Vampiric weapons (like the Massive Halberd of Hate) are also good because they can not only heal you but also take your HP over the normal maximum.

Cold damage is most often resisted. Chakopec is the only creature to resist Acid damage iirc.

I don't know much about weapons, but if the reach on Twelve Paces is long enough, it could essentially function as a ranged weapon, allowing non-tanks to participate in combat without immediately getting creamed.

    Try this:
    -Cast a summon.
-Have it walk well ahead of you.
-When you encounter an enemy, it will fight your summon.
-You can participate in the fight with spells and ranged weapons (including M. Sword).
-Get a normal weapon, walk up to the enemy, and hit it. It will usually stop fighting your summon and start beating on you.

I thought Weapon Finesse didn't work with dual wielding.

Not necessarily JT. I don't know about summons but I always have my beserker-tank using two-handed weapons follow the high AC sheild. If done right, the enemy almost never attacks the tank.

    @Caradhras
The only requisite of using Weapon Finesse is that the weapon be a small blade. Thus it is best used while dual weilding.

AI in IWDII is idiotic, check Jukka's Ultimate powergaming party for a completed research on it and tactics based on it ;)

Nine/twelve paces is really cool for high strenght clerics/druids/bards and the like that dont really have the HP and AC for front lines but can still poke at the enemies behind the lines. Being two handed it also makes great use of high strenght.

A bit off topic, but reading the description of those two weapons got me thinking a bit... i mean, one speaks of dwarven runes, the other of small number of magical properties. These weapons are +4 and +5 and they say a small number of magical properties?! That i'd expect from a +1 and no more, not freakin' +5 with Flaming, Vampiric and extra 2d6 against evil! :mommy:

Gee, i want a page of a story behind a weapon like that, makes you feel like you really got an artifact pulsing with power, not just another stick to beat the hapless orcs with. :toofar:

Shrikant, my experience is that when given a good chance, the computer will switch targets from a summon to a PC, but not the other way, and not from PC to PC.

[IMG] When looking for good weapons I first check for the words brilliant, vampiric, keen, sure strike. If the description has any of those four words, I know it's getting equipped right away.
Next I look for elemental or poison damage. And finally the phrases spellward, bonus v/s, chance target is affected by spell..., user is under influence of spell...

Any other consideration has nothing to do with damage output.

EDIT: Damn it! In the time it took for me to type out my post Gothmog went from being a Dark Treant to ... Whatever the **** is that supposed to be?

Yup, kinda outgrew my treant of old. Lost my roots, so i dropped an inferno at my feet and turned to a fire elemental. Kinda handy with this winter around :spin:
