What to Do about Imoen?

I'm in the beginning and just about to accept edwins quest and was wondering if I do need to do these quest in order to save Immoen? I'm asking because I'm also trying to romance Aerie and she seems not to pleased w/ Edwins quest to murder the harpers.

Murder the Harpers? Edwin asks you to kill a Cowled Wizard if that is what you mean. It is part of the thieves quest so you have to do it to finish the quest. Yes go ahead and do it. It will not hurt the Aerie romance. But you do not really have to finish Bloodscalps quest to save Imoen. You just have to raise the $20K. There are other quests that will raise the money.

 

Renal Bloodscalps' quests are seperate from the chapter three thieves guild quests. So you do not need to complete them in order to rescue Imoen. However they do provide a lot of money which can be put towards rescuing Imoen.

 

This time around I am leaving most quests for after I rescue Immy so she isn't so far behind on exp, including Renal's.

 

You get an L12 Imoen in spellhold. Renal and Nalia's quests along with a few other weapon gathering quests wont get you to even L11 unless you are soloing.

 

Youre kidding! Hmm. I better go back then. Nuts. I thought i read somewhere that she didn't level up after she's kidnapped and that some people only do a couple quests like the slaver compound before they go to Spellhold. This changes things considerably. Thanks.

 

She had 400,000 XP when I got to her.

 

When you pick her up again her level is actually variable. IIRC it is between 7-11. I assume it is based on your groups levels. If you did less/more quests before finding her again she is lower/higher in level. Her experience will be between 90000 and 400000.

 

Usually when I solo, she got 1.2mil exp (lv13 ?)
But this time I had 1.5mil while she got 400k

Can anyone tell me how the game work ?

 

iirc Imoen's mage level = average party level. But its limited to L11-13.
This means if you do only Renal's quest in Chapter 2 (iirc that alone gets you over 15kGP) and Aran's quests in Chapter 3, you might just end up getting Imoen at a level higher than yours.

 

My party had over 1 Mill. XP each on average (1.1-1.2 all) and she had exactly 400,000 XP when I picked her up.

 

Like I said, its average party levels and not XP that matters.
Also for Dual-classed charecters only the second class matters. So for Nalia consider only her mage class.
For multi-classes, average of both classes, rounded down.
For entire party, average levels of every member in party at the time you can have the new charecter join you, rounded down. This determines Imoen's Mage levels.
Still, Aces should have gotten a higher level Imoen.

 

Level 11, 400000 looks like the highest you can get. I used Shadow Keeper and looked at the 'not in party' characters. ie the npc's the game has stored for you to meet. There are three copies of Imoens character. The highest Imoen is level 11, 400000XP. It seems the game does not calculate new levels/xp etc - it just grabs one of the stored files.

 

I've certainly never gotten her with more than 400k, tho I do tend to go to spellhold fairly early. I know there are playes who do pretty much everything first - perhaps one of them could say what level Immy is with a high level party.

Looking at one of my games in ShadowKeeper, I do see an Imoen with exp of 1.2 million. I'm quite sure she's not a party member, as the only game running on that install is a solo. I do have an up to date patch and Baldurdash, so that might be where this version of her has come from.

 

I seem to remember Imoen having 400K as well. For me, she ALWAYS comes in with far fewer XPs than everyone else, because you get so many bonus XP for finishing the chapter quests. Let's assume you get out of Irenicus's dungeon with somewhere around 200K XP

As far as I'm concerned - and doing the bare bone minimum of quests before going to get Imoen. Geez, you can do Hendak's quest in the Copper Coronet and free the slavers - that *may* be enough to earn 15K gp. But even that gives what - about 30K XP per character? You get another 50K XP for finishing chapter 2, and then 28K, 28K, and 50K for doing the shadow theif quests in chapter 3. So before you even add in the XP for killing stuff, you have well over 350K XP before you even leave for Spellhold. Then there's more XPs you'll get in Brynlawn before you rescue Imoen, so there's really no way you're going to have an average party level of under 11 unless you are playing with A LOT of multi-classed characters, and even then, early on multi-classes only lag about 1 or 2 levels behind the single classed characters.

 

You want to do the minimum before saving Imoen?

Down a few potions of Master Thievery and steal/sell stuff at the second thieves guild. You can leave for Spellhold without even resting after leaving the dungeon.

I tried this once, and I still had more XP than Imoen.
