Who makes the best Elven mage? Diviner, Enchanter or standard Mage?

The Diviner gets an extra spell per level, but is unable to cast spells from the Conjuration school.

The Enchanter gets an extra spell per level, but is unable to cast spells from the Invocation/Evocation school.

The standard mage gets a better choice of spells, but gets one less spell per level.

I would say Diviner is better. Okay, you can't summon things and you miss out on a couple of attack spells, but on the whole the invocation spells are more useful.

Well, you don't need conjuration to summon, you can still summon skeletons with animate dead which is a Necromancy spell and is a decent summoning, so I agree with the Diviner.

I agree. Diviner isnt so bad. Conjuration has only a few good spells.

Yes, but Animate Dead is what, Level 5? What about MS I, II, and III? Aren't some of the armor schools conjurations as well? Quite frankly, I find that conjuration and evocation to be very powerful schools, so I have a hard time giving them up. In fact, divination is one of the schools I'm willing to lose in picking a specialist. While I do like playing a specialist mage, given my limited choices here, I'd say general mage.

The armour spell is only useful in the early part of the game. I could use scrolls for emergencies and you can get the wand of monster summoning to cover the loss of summoning monsters. Besides, clerics can summon skeletons which are much better anyway.

Losing the extra spell seems much harder to give up, as when you get the ring of wizardry that is the equivalent of 2 first level spells, which can be crucial in the early levels.
