    Ehm I can't say exactly.

    With lore you can identify items without using a identification scroll/spell. With a higher lore you can identify mor items this way. I think it is the possibillity to recognize (identify) things because you saw it before.

    Correct me if I'm wrong!

    Your knowledge of old, forgotten tales, mysterious artifcats, legendary monsters, ancient legends of great treasures, etc.

    But, in game terms, what Headbanger said :)

    If I remember well, fighters do not have lore. A Paladin has a lore, A thief (good thief can identify arrows), a Cleric and a mage do have lore. In my party with Thief, Paladin, Cleric/Mage and Mage, my Cleric/Mage has a very high lore, The mage's lore is lower, then comes the thief and then the paladin.

    The Bard, of course, has the greatest knowledge of old tales, of legends forgotten by all but a rare sage, of stories of hoards of treasure in the dungeons of that old keep... so if you want really good lore, get yourself a wise Bard (Wisdom and Intelligence give bonus points to your lore.. check the manual for mroe details).

    Yepz... well I don;t like Bards, never have one in my party (blame Garrick :D)
    I didn't knew that Wisdom and Intelligence had influence on the lore but is explains why my cleric/mage (wisdom and intelligence 18) has such a high lore. She identifies almost everything without using a spell...

    Yep, they both (cumulative) give a +3 (Int or Wis 15) till +40 (Int or Wis 25) bonus.

    16 => +5
    17 => +7
    18 => +10
    19 => +12
    20 => +15
    ...
