I hope someone has got time to answer these questions. I am studying some things at the moment and it would be interesting to know the answers to some of these questions. So, what do you want? Are you sure that what you want will make you happy? Are you 100% happy with what you have now? Do you think that what you want is just not achievable? Do you desire incredible things but then say "It would be nice but it would never happen"? Do you already have what you want but find that you are lacking something and don't quite know what it is?

I would like to have happy grandchildren one day who will continue our family line. Most of the other things I want (e.g. money, decent kids, good health, good job etc) I have realised are just sub-objectives towards this one overall goal. Once I realised this, my life has become so much simpler.

That sure is a hard question.

I'm not 100% happy with what I have, but that is because I can't figure out what I want. Some simple things I want are achievable, but when I have them I feel it's not what I want so they can make me happy but not 100% happy. Maybe being happy is what I want and then it is't 100% achievable...

    Does this help?

I'm happy with what I have had the moment. Life could certainly be a LOT worse.

I want a better paying job, with a better environment to work in, with better managers, and better benefits. I know that I would be happy with that, as my current job doesn't pay sh*t, and makes my life miserable.

Either that, or I want a credit card that has no limit and is completely paid for by the Canadian government! I wonder how long it would take me to force Canada into bankruptcy? :rolling:

I'd like to be able to afford a house in one of those small coastal towns in Spain. I'm fed up with the weather, among other things, here in my country, and wouldn't mind leaving forgood.

Hmm... What I want is more sex, more money, and more travelling. :D

Just a bugger that I have to finish my master's papers first, which means that I'll get to spend my time in a campus filled with ice queens, living on a bare student's minimum, and staying locked to a one place for ~5 years.

Try guessing WHY I want what I want. :shame:

I echo these sentiments. I may actually be starting a new life in Mexico soon. It will start with a holiday, but if I like it there, then I am just not going to come back home...

Why do you want to live in Mexico? I thought you were giving Sarevok grief because he didn't like living in England.

Good job, wife. I'll figure out what to ask for next when that happens.

The problem is I don't know how to get from where I am to where I want to be...

Freedom - what I really want is to be able to set my own path, on a whim, without inhibitions.
And change it back if thusly inclined, too.

And from that come subobjectives: primarily power and money, but also knowledge... I want to understand the human mind better, to learn how to shape it's thought patterns...

And of course; money. So that when I decide I want to go somewhere, I get a plane ticket/cab/etc and have me taken there.

And I want (or rather: would like) to be able to go without sleep. Or at least live in a less day-focused society.
I am a nocturnal person, and by the time my mind becomes at it's 'peak', I'll have a whole day behind me and my body will usually be tired.

Thus: power. Over my own body, and over my own mind, and over the mind of others, should I thusly choose.
And with that, I want understanding, so I can better oversee the results of what I will do with that power.

Ultimately, it boils down to freedom, and independence.
    How very cliché
    :borg:

PS: Happy with what I have now? Pretty much so, yeah. I usually get things my way, but there's not enough margin on everything, and that's pushing me to the proverbial edge

OK, we start by rioting in the streets about taxes! Can anyone think of a good riot chant?

Happiness is what I wish for, and it has pretty much nothing to do with a good job and money. More like inner peace and fulfillment. However, that is rather idealistic of me in a world where nothing but money is important. Or so they tell us. Money will make you safe, money will provide you with all you need. As if...

And time. Much time. As in a long life. Scary how the years go by so quickly... Very scary. :( And they are getting shorter after every turn.

To achieve happiness... would make me happy - I guess. :) I am not that sure about my wish for a long life.

Definitely. The modell of our society is not made for happiness. Only for wanting more, never being satisfied. Not such a good thing. Comes off as greed.

At first I wanted to answer that with "no, what a waste of mental energies". Still, I suppose I do. Nothing wrong with leaving the harsh restrictions of rationality behind.

There are times when I feel at ease and satisfied with my life. And there is nothing more one can (or should) ask for. However, this nagging experience of wanting more is there, yes. More. More! :D

Bah, folks. C'mon, you can do better than that. Talking about money, freedom and stuff. That's all so second level, it's nothing real. Those things are just tools at your disposal for reaching what you really desire. At least as long as you're talking about freedom in an "I'd like to be free to fly to Mexico" kind of way rather than the Chandos-like "I strive for the freedom of all people!".

What are your first and foremost desires? Harbourboy seems to be the only one with a tangible idea.

Is freedom desirable in itself? Most people (at least those with the luxury to ponder such questions - those who don't have to struggle to see the next day alive) spend their days in front of their tv sets. What does freedom mean to them? Next to nothing.

What's money? Something that buys you champagne? Well, is champagne what you expect from life? Or your XBox? Or a Bentley?

Hugo's idea with setting his own path seems to point into a more sophisticated direction. But what precisely is that path you want to follow independently of constraints?

Hm. It is tough, isn't it. So here's my goal, my mission. I want to be an empathic, sympathetic person without getting involved too deeply into the personal problems of others. I want to be helpful without feeling responsible for others - neither for their lives, nor for their thoughts. I want to stay mentally healthy and centered in my own being. I don't want to ignore and pass over my feelings - even if it would be easier to do so just to meet the expectations of others - parents, friends, relatives, co-workers, you name it.

And one more thing I would need to feel happy. I want to live in a world where no one is ever lonely. Never ever. Loneliness is something so vast, so cruel, so unbearable. Humans are not carved out to be alone. A conscience is a terrible thing.

The thought of someone sitting there alone in darkness.
The very thought of someone believing that there is no one out there for him.
The thought of a life that desperately wants to share, to communicate, to convey its ideas and its very self... and then there's no one there... no one to even talk to. No addressee. Just an empty void.

God, those thoughts provoke such a deep sadness in me that I could cry and mourn all day.

I'd be happy - and this would be near to the aimed at 100% - to live in the knowledge that no one has ever to feel lonely in this life.

If presented with the choice of death or a life in utter loneliness until the end of my days, I'd happily choose death again and again.

:yot: BTW, here's a good riot chant: we all go "taxes down! taxes down!" while we clap our hands to every syllable - then, after 10 times, we all take a sudden jump to the left, bend our knees, do another two chants while proceeding in a duck walk, jump up, throw our hands in the air and go "whoopseydo!". Repeat. How about that?

To live nice and warm you need money, NOT nice and warm to have money. INT of 18 required for you to understand the bottom of that phrase. :xx:

    What do I want?

1.) To have more quality spare time. I would be happy with a three day working week. The other two days could be spent doing things I enjoy.
2.) House & Land. Not a big house, in fact not much bigger than I have currently. I would however like it detached and set within a few acres of pleasant countryside, preferably including a wood.
3.) Given the above, a second dog and maybe a couple of cats.
4.) Get rid of the IBS and have a continued state of good health

Am I sure it would make me happy?

    1.) Happier, definitely.
2.) I'm pretty happy with what I've got, but this t'would be the icing on the cake and somehting I'm aiming for.
3.) Yes, subject to them not fighting.
4.) Not having it would make me unhappy.

Am I 100% happy with what I have now?

Well obviously not 100% otherwise the above wouldn't make me happier. I am, however, satisfied with my life at this current point in time.

    Is what I want acheivable?

Definitely, cash injection of a few million pounds would give me all but no. 4, that one is down to a combination of good diet and good luck.

    Do I desire incredible things?

Of course, to be able to levitate/fly would be great. Communicate with animals alla Dr. Dolittle. General superhero type of abilities. Ain't going to happen though.

Do I feel I am lacking something but don't know what it is?

I'm fairly sure it's those listed above. Won't know till I get them.
