A fighter/thief most likely. The only class that could really solo a game without too many problems.

alternatively I'd name the illusionist-thief or mage-thief, they come really close.

Like Tal says Fighter/Thief or Bard for solo.

[IMG] I also think fighter/thieft is the best for solo.

You could pull off a F/M/T pretty easily I guess.

Or as someone said before, a Bard because they can use most anything and are a very well-rounded character.

Mage/thief would be better than Fighter/thief. Why? I soloed the game (I was bored, ok?) and have to say that having the mage class instead of the fighter is more useful, because:
    1) A single character just won't cut it in a fighting situation, especially if that character is a multiclass.
    2) You can rely on mage spells (knock, invisibility) until you get your thief skills high enough.
    3) Later on, fireballs can clear a room full of enemies you can't sneak past, that would potentially be too many for any fighting character. When enemies get close, mirror image is a lifesaver.
    4) You'll be able to use wands. Monster summoning wands are incredibly helpful, and even lightning wands are useful when you're not accompanied by a party they can (and will!) wipe out.
