What classes can't you dual class with?

There's also paladins, monks, sorcerers and barbarians. You also can't pick a kit for your second class while dual-classing, not without using Shadowkeeper or importing from BG1. :(

Barbarian, monk, sorcerer, paladin. In vanilla ToB, the ranger kits Stalker and Archer can't dual class either (though they could in SoA). Also remember that only humans can dual class.

Valid dual class combinations are the same as valid multi-class combinations.

You also need 15 in the first class's major attribute(s) and 17 in the second class's major attribute(s). So a fighter can only dual to mage if he has at least 15 STR and 17 INT. The same alignment restrictions that apply if you want to make a class also apply. So a fighter must be true neutral to be able to dual to a druid.

A fighter may dual class to a cleric, druid, mage or thief. Major attribute is STR.
A thief may dual class to a fighter, cleric or mage. Major attribute is DEX. To dual to a thief you may not be lawful good.
A mage may dual class to fighter, cleric or thief. Major attribute is INT.
A cleric may dual class to fighter, mage, thief or ranger. Major attribute is WIS.
A druid may dual class to fighter. Major attributes are WIS and CHA. To dual to druid you must have true neutral alignment.
A ranger may dual class to cleric. Major attributes are STR and DEX. To dual to ranger, you must have any good alignment.

How does the import method work? I don't recall being able to pick a kit when importing a C/F/M, a F/M/T, or a R/C from BG1.

I've thought a cleric/assassin would be interesting to try, but had trouble getting the initial bonuses with Shadowkeeper.

I've made a half-orc fighter/assassin and had some problems getting the initial Poison Weapon ability, but I could just add it to the Innate tab in SK. Alternatively, it's possible to add the kit in SK, set your xp to 0 and lvl 1/1 (for a multi-class, for a dual class you'd start at 0 and 1 anyway). Without doing anything else, you can just export the character in-game once you've added the kit, then re-import it and the game takes care of it for you. Of course you then have to add the xp and levels again.

It only works on mages afaik. Because BG1 didn't have mage specializations, BG2 would allow you to choose a mage specialization after you imported your character. You need to have the proper stats though. Haven't tested it on multiclassed PCs.

Edit: Checked and yes, apparently you always get the option to choose a kit when importing to BG2 as long your character is single/dual-classed and passes the requirements (like Kensais have to be lawful, etc). BG1 did have mage specializations (can't remember why I said it didn't) but you can choose a new specialization when importing to BG2. If you dual-class, you also can choose a kit only for your first class.

I know I've imported double-classed characters, but honestly don't recall being asked for a kit.
I take it you don't get asked for a kit with triple-classed characters? My most recent play-through from Bg1-ToB was a F/M/T with the XP cap modified so that each class can go as high as you could normally with a single class.

As for what you were thinking about BG1 lacking specialist wizards, I have no idea. It had specialist wizards, but no other kits. In fact, if you read the BG1 forum regularly, you'd see that almost everyone duals Imoen to a conjurer.

The export/import doesn't work. What I wound up doing was creating an assassin, then using Shadowkeeper to make her a Cleric/Assassin and fixing the spell list. That worked for the assassin bonuses.

It's too bad I can't use a spiked greatclub/oni club as I had this character in mind:

It works for me. When you import a character, you go over everything as if you were creating a new character. I can choose a kit for my fighter when creating my fighter/thief. Remember that some kits have requirements.

Multiclassed characters may not choose a kit. Dual-classed characters may choose a kit, but only for their first class. Specialization counts as a kit, and my confusion over it is from how any fighter/specialist mage I create in BG1 always reverts back to being a fighter/mage in BG2. This is because you can't pick a kit (or specialization, the game treats wizard specializations as kits) for your second class.

Given your example this means that by playing BG1->BG2 you could create an assassin/cleric or cleric of talos/thief, but not a cleric/assassin.

It didn't? I just tried it in BGTutu (easier because you start at lvl 1 and no intro sequences to delay getting into the game), created a cleric/thief multi-class character and saved the game. Then used SK to add the assassin kit, loaded the game again and exported the character. Then I copied the savegame to the multiplayer map and when loading that game, deleted the original character and re-imported the exported character. Worked like a charm and on import he had the poison weapon ability as normal. Plus some Bhaal powers that I don't think he should have had at this point in the game, but I never use those anyway.

You want to create a psychopath angel who'll kill people for the slightest perceived misunderstanding? At least, that's my - admittedly very limited - impression of the character from whatever glimpses I've seen of her in some Youtube movies.

That's about it, though she also has the power to resurrect her "victims" (otherwise the series would be over as early as episode 1). Fits the cleric part. Death is pretty much meaningless (except as comic relief) in this anime.

Yes, seems fitting for the daughter of the God of Murder.

As for the multiclass problem, it's the bonus +1 to hit and +1 to damage that I don't get. I was trying for a multiclass character, not a dual-class character.
