    Not very funny. :nono:

I actually need to buy that stuff from my black and white cat. Since she was spayed at an early age, as well as being an indoor only cat, and since my parents are too lazy to keep her on a set feeding schedule (they just leave a ton of food out at all times), she has gotten quite fat.

Everyone knows an indoor cat will usually plump up as they get older due to lack of movement and overfeeding.

    So, once more: :nono: :rolling:

Iams has garnered rather a bad reputation in animal welfare circles for some of the animal testing they have done in the past. (Such as breaking animals legs to see the effect of Iams on healing bones)The testing is reasonably well documented, and not just posting from the militant loonies like PETA.

Interesting to note they now have a website dedicated to erase that image.

Anyway, I wouldn't buy their product. Overweight animals? Only feed them proper pet food (no treats), and get a dry food that has all the required nutrients in small portions. It's quite remarkable the difference - We use a dry food for a 25kg dog which has a daily requirements of 200g. Compare this to a different dry food which requires 850g for the same size of dog, or tinned food which requires 5 tins. Guess which one means he won't put on weight?

Modern housecats face the same problems ads modern people in office jobs do... and have you actually ever seen a cat on a treadmill?

/me goes and buys a tazer gun...

I know how to make cats loose weight!

Putting them in the bathtub helps aswell even if its only shallow, they freak out from water but their feet are too wet to grip the sides so scamper around for hours and hours!

    @SoB:
:toofar: And perhaps the key to making you lose weight is Chinese water torture. :nono: Always consider the other side of the coin before inflicting suffering on another.

@SoB - CWT is slowly dripping water on a (confined) person's head for a long, long time.

My fat cats were much like Kitrax's - spayed, kept indoors and having a full food dish. I think the spaying is what really packed on the pounds for my cats.

My cats won't eat Iams. Seeing the list of ingredients I now know why. Cats are carnivours and need meat not corn meal, etc.

[IMG] There's nothing wrong with weight control cat food. It's only like humans taking Slim-Fast! Cats get fat too you know!

@ Carcaroth - I didn't know that about IAMS, we've been feeding the general IAMS to our two cats. Where can I find out more about this?

There was a chinese saying "rather be a dog in a good era than a human in a bad era". Exists at the sameime, people die of starvation and cats die of overweight problem.

Ha, cats are better when they're fat. If I ever have a cat again, I am going to feed it absolute **** loads of food until he is gigantic!

Although I have seen a very bad case of that to the point where the cat couldnt move to reach the litter tray, so you may wish to think that one over a little ;)

I have a very tall tomcat by name of Felix, and he weighs in at something a little less than 7 kg. As he's tall enough to look on our table when he's standing up to it (something I'm proud of for some irrational reason), he still weighs more than he should.

Problem with cats is not so much the food but that they are instinct driven as far as food is concerned, and that they eat, just like men (including me), more than they should when there is a lot on their plate.

One has to take care basically only of two things:</font>
    • ensure that only one person is feeding the cat (cats are quite persuasive when telling you they're starving) - we devised a scheme to 'flag' Felix' bowl when fed - and
    • that portion sizes are adequate, that is, relatively small.
Just don't cave in to these litte cunning, and spoiled, manipulative beauties :shake:

Our cat is outside most of the day. He's healthy. He brings bunnies and birds to the house, but not into it.

Cat's are prowlers and they need space. You don't keep a tiger, lynx, lion or panther in your house, nor a cat.
I like my active, healthy and clean cat much better than the dull, slow, dusty, smelly, fat objects I have seen in sculleries, with Garfield as the only exception.

"Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?
Smelly cat, smelly cat, it's not your fault" :D

My cats were always speyed/castrated but never had weight problems. They weren't indoor cats though - we lived in the country.

According to the Sunday Express, (June 2001) in one experiment 24 young dogs had their right kidneys removed and the left partly damaged to investigate how protein affects dogs with kidney failure. Eight dogs were killed to analyse the kidney tissue. Other research included the sterilisation of 24 female cats, which were over-fed until they became obese. Then the animals were starved until they lost 30 per cent of their body weight so that their livers could be examined to investigate the link between weight loss and disease. Also, according to the report, several breeds of dog were "regularly given chest wounds" to see if diet could affect fur regrowth.

 Really, you think I could?

My furries have a big container that feeds out by gravity. When the dish part gets empty enough, there's room for the food to pour out the little opening. I don't have to fill it very often, and even with an "endless" supply of food, my cats stay fit and trim. I'm so proud! :D
