Nobody seems to play this game the very interesting way. Most people approach party management from the point:
-For my party i need a thief, 2 mages, a cleric, and 2 fighters (TANK! how offensive! :))... So... I will take Minsc and Korgan as figters, combine Edwin & Nalia as mages, use Anomn as cleric and my character will be a thief.. mmm... no, fighter/thief, thief is too weak... AND, not a chance I will take Haerdalis cos' everyone hates him-

I think this "practical" way ruins the game, makes completion some sort of job to be done with most efficient result.

I played this way, enjoyed ('tis a great game! still...) but lately I decided - Why not use some non-offensive characters and play the challenging way? For now, my asassin and Haerdalis work so fine, that I cant believe I ever played it with mages and total fighters...

The way I played it, the first people I ran across were in my party. That happened to be (in order) Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshimo/Imoen, Aerie and Valygar.

I was thinking about next time I take all the good and neutral characters with me that I did not have this time so that are: Anomen, Haer'Dalis, Cernd, Aerie, Mazzy or maybe Nalia. I think that would be an interresting party, but maybe a littlebit difficult to play.

[IMG] My first game the NPC's I choose were:
    - Imoen
    - Aerie
    - Jaheira
    - Keldorn
    - Mazzy
I wanted the romance with Aerie. Jaheira is interesting. Keldorn and Mazzy are fine upholders of Lawful Good which my character was.

Of course the next game was different to see other NPC interaction and other NPC quests.
    - Korgan
    - Viconia
    - Edwin
    - Yoshimo

And so it goes, mix them up and discover more funny and interesting interactions... :)

    I'm taking Haer'Dalis next time.

    My first party was
    Nyladin (bard)
    Minsc
    Cernd
    Anomen
    Mazzy
Jan and in ch. 6 onwards Edwin.

That's not a conventional party by any means.

When making a party, build it around what your main char is, and how many you want in your party. for a normal 6 man party, Lets say your a mage, well you then need at least 2 attackers, I would suggest Minsc, Keldorn, or Freakboy. Along with korgon. Then you should have prolly 1 clreic, Viconia so far thats 4, Now choose either Edwin or Nalia (your choice). So whos your theif? Yoshimo/Imoen or Jan Janson.

If you dont Like Mixed Evil/good then go with Minsc and Keldorn, Aerie, Nalia, and Jan. If your going all evil your gunna be short an attacker, so i would keep Minsc, or if you hate him Pick up FreakBoy and make him evil.

[IMG] It's a safe bet he is refering to Anomen, that seems to be a name he gets called a lot. He is actually the one NPC I haven't had a try with, except for 2 seconds to look at his stats and that doesn't count. So I don't pass any judgements on him.

I am currently going through the game using

    Kitiara (mage/fighter elf)
    Anomen (for romance and cleric)
    Imoen (thief)
    Areie(sp?)(mage/cleric)
    Minsc(my fav)
    Jaheria (druid)

I prefer to stick with my alignment also. Evil characters i will do another time :)

I had a tree huggers party
    1)Tyresian, elven stalker
    2)Minsc, god i hate him
3)Jaheira, good fighter with gauntlets of ogre might
    4)Valygar, good backup
5)Cernd, uuugh, running outta treehuggers, got desperate :)
    6)Imoen, just can't dump my sister, n i needed a thief
And finally, my faithful moondog, Cerebrus

As a note i'm obsessed with stalkers and i still resent being a little goblin over that eye!

My first BG-2 party was pretty soft-skinned, especially when compared to my actual tank party, and so quite differnet to play (though my thief was pretty dominating):

-Me (dc fighter (lvl-6)/ thief (lvl-**) from BG-1
    -Minsc
    -Jaheira
    -Aerie (for my romance)
    -Viconia
    -Imoen

I built it after all the nice NPCs I met and I couldn´t let anyone of them go.

Hey Ragusa had an interesting post on a similar topic to this a little while back. For more (unusual) ideas take a look:
    http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001910.html

It also has links to a thread I did about women only and non-magic users only - although that thread got split (technical problems) and was continued here:
    http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001920.html

(Just checking that, I am reminded that I have enough BG characters do a party of Slappies (might need to start with a Thief though), complete with portraits and a sound set. I think I have too much time on my hands and no life.)

Also, someone had the idea of making up a party from the people on these boards:
    http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001982.html

There has also been a post recently 'All the Classes' that links to a site that has got a load of themed parties to download. If you are still stuck for idea try using the search on here. As you can imaging, this has been a popular topic.

All of the anti/pro bard talk in another thread got me thinking the other night. So I started a new party with me as a (male) blade. My NPCs will all be fine young ladies. So I've got...

    Me - blade
    Jaheira
Nalia (will trade for Imoen ASAP)
    Aerie
    Viconia
Mazzie (I'll pick her up in a bit)

Well, it *is* fantasy roll-playing after all. :)
