Valygar's mage spells

I just levelled up Valygar, and on the info. screen, it said gained ........... spells (can't remember which ones). I still can't figure out how to activate these, does anyone know how?

 

I don't think you got my original meaning, when Stalkers (Valygar) get to lvl. 12, they get certain mage spells (Lightning bolt, Haste, Prot. from normal missiles, chrom. orb and something else). What I want to know is how to cast these, as I can't figure out how to do it.

 

Nope, it's just charm animal there (does anyone ever use this?).

 

What?! Are you joking? LOL! Slap my ass and call me tutti! I had no idea he got special wizard spells to use as an ability. I think Valygar is by far the best NPC in the game now with this, all his resistances and everything else.

I agree, I think Valygar is much better than Minsc in a lot ways.

Valygar better than Minsc? Minsc is the best kind of warrior! And with Boo, who could resist? I mean, Valygar has some resistances, a nice dexterity, and an ok strength, but Minsc makes up where Valygar doesn't: 18/93 strength, and the ability to wear heavy armor. He hits easier, and gets hit alot less (esp with g. of dexterity). In the end, you probably will have a better mage than Valygar could compare to, and his fighting skills are mediocre at best. Not to mention, Minsc has a personality to boot.

BTW, Taluntain, Charm Animal can be somewhat useful. Use it against the animal keeper in the Copper Coronet, or the animals in Trademeet. Also you can lead the spiders in Ust'Natha and use them against the Drow (not that they are affective, it's just funny). I never had the time to use it on a werewolf or a wolfwere but with the exception of magic resistance i dont see why it wouldnt work. Granted, later on it becomes SOOO useless, as hack and slash=dead, but early in the game, I found it is worth trying to save time and effort.

Valygar has 18/00 strength in my game and that alone is better than Minsc. His rather above average dexterity helps in any situation and with natural protections due to his family armor and weapons, duel-wielding those weapons and others, he is a true force. Much better than Minsc.

Minsc is annoying. Period. He's a little bit better in BG2 and if I could take Boo away, I would as well. I don't care for his personality or any of his remarks. The only thing he's good for is his two-handing fighting ability with Lilacor.

If it came down to choosing between Valygar or Minsc, Minsc would be tossed in an instant.

Access his mage spells in his priest spellbook
I would take both of them in my party. 2 rangers always come in handy.

As a Stalker Val is a ranger class, and SHOULD have some cleric spells (even Minsc has some he can use). His priest spell book is active(not grayed out), but it has no spells and none ever showed up--at least while he was in my party. When we discussed this failure on another thread, the consensus was that it was due to Valygar hating magic so much. Anyway, he (as a stalker) should have access to a few (3 I think) mage spells at level 12 or 13. Since I didn't keep him around I don't know if he gets those mage spells or if they may be not available--for the same reason he didn't get his cleric spells.

BTW: He CAN cast spells. For those few you can get scrolls for (mostly protection types--but that includes some serious heals and resurections--if you don't have the wand)

 

Rangers can only cast spells at level 9
