Has anyone else ever thought, or did this? I was thinking in a CN fashion and I thought of letting every NPC join, until they die! Any ideas on the subject?

I tried something similar, I didn't reload after party member death (which I usually do) except my own, obliged. I let every NPC join that wanted to join. There was only one problem, probably related to my poor playing style (full headon melee charge at any enemy) and the fact that I tend to overestimate the strength of my partymembers and underestimate the strenth of the enemy. The problem was that after awhile I had to resurrect dead partymembers since there were none left to recrute.

The idea has roleplaying merit, but then again, roleplaying is in the eye of the beholder.

The obvious stumbling block to this approach is when the player develops sentimental attachments to the NPCs.

The obvious example for me, as if I would ever leave Jaheira for dead.

But you get Jahiera in BGII even if she dies in BGI right? doesn't make any sense for that to happen imo.

I want to do this because I always find myself using the party from the beginning of BGII(Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir) I'm thinking about starting with good and neutral NPCS and then eventually work to all evil ones

You could also decide for yourself not to take these npcs with you so that you're forced to use other ones. If you have trouble roleplaying this then here are some suggestions:
    - for Jaheira, Khalid and Imoen you can easily play a character that wants to break with his past and so doesn't want any persons around reminding him of Gorion or his time spent in Candlekeep.
    - for Minsc and Dynaheir you can either play someone evil who accepts Edwin's proposal or if you want to rescue her you can always take the dialog option of finding her too weak for your party.

I know some people who do this and let some party members die "a bit earlier" than "natural"
E.g. those who loved Jaheira so much, sent Khalid into the front line of battle and "forgot" to heal him...
