[IMG] The US government brought up a stunning proposal: Blot the sun through more pollution!

The Guardian suggests that U.S. proposal is yet another example of the Bush Administration's fondness for smoke and mirrors, while others might insist that the proposal stems from the Administration's general preference for keeping people in the dark as much as possible.

I think we should go for it, shouldn't we? Sure, there may be some unexpected side effects. But at there is no doubt in my mind the Administration has thought through everything as thorougly as they have, for instance, the invasion of Iraq.

Seriously, because it is an official US proposal it will have to be discussed in international negotiations, no matter how insane it is. It's a big 'F*ck you' to the international community, and a perfect excuse for the US to further refuse any agreement - after all their proposal will be thoroughly trashed and refused, and rightly so. But it will cost time and stall negotiations, which I presume is the whole idea. Bush can then say: 'See, I tried, but these obstructionist fanatics didn't cooperate!'

Better still, he can make it US law, and allow energy providers to remove their dust and sulphur filters from the power plants, to care for the environment that way! Sheer genius!

I've always thought that nuclear winter would be the best way to cool off the climate. I wonder when the Bush administration will make this as a viable option...

Of course you could always try to make that Yellowstone Supervolcano active, the smoke from that would block the sun.

Er, and no one's worried that this might decrease the quantity of energy emitted back in space? As in, the way global warming actually heats up the planet right now?

How long will those ...... be in charge of the planet's superpower, and in fact anything related to any form of sentient life?

They aren't serious? This is just a joke, right? No?

You know that polluted water could actually keep the arctic ice intact?

    Sydax,
that is partisan smear and a transparent lie. As global warming doesn't exist, except as a hoax in the minds of fraudulent scientists, how can people be mislead about it's existence?

This HAS to be a joke, right? I really don't want to start a debate about 'world police' here.

I bet these are the people who say that we come from Adam and Eve...

    Sydax,
I have to admit I added the links without even reading the articles behind them, after all, who would be surprised by the content after the titles?

Yet something good came of it - after your reply I did a search for Dr. Singer and found this article. Turns out dear doctor is a professional doubter of science. Before specialising in 'climate non-change', he provided statements that smoking is basically healthy, and that all this talk about health risks is an exaggerated conspiracy theory.

The comment delves into 'grassroots' groups that somehow focus on doubting science. One of these groups goes by the name 'Friends of Science' (they seem to have a twisted sense of humour, don't they?) and specialises in climage change denial.
    Hat tip :)

I can understand if the Bush administration wants to keep Bush as much in the dark as possible. That might be why they want to block out the light. ;)

Insurance such as "Reflective dust pumped into the atmosphere". Are the trying to give Aspesdos some friggin competition as to which dust will poison the most people each year. And is that why Venus is so hot? The clouds and ash trap heat beneath it and it will still let more heat in but wont let any out (could be wrong, has been a few years since I studied the solar system but I do remember Venus being hotter than Mercury)

Some one needs to draw tattoo of the words "Retard" or "Friggin Idiot" to G.W Bush's head, as well as many other people who came up with the comical idea.

All of his stupidity brings on the lyrics of one of my favourite songs (Black Cadillacs) by Modest Mouse

Well, I suppose that if we pump enough dust into the air we'll eventually get the nuclear winter effect...

btw - is this reminding anyone else of that episode of The Simpsons where Mr Burns plots to black out the sun...?

I read over the articles in the original post and found my self thinking "it isn't the 1st of april already, is it?" That 'plan' of theirs would be funny if it weren't for the fact that they are serious.
